[Lingerie Review] Tyes By Tara Bombshell Bratye

Sometimes the simplest things are the sexiest! And the brand’s elegant simplicity is one of the things I love about Tyes By Tara, a woman-owned company in the US selling a wide range of wearables, accessories, and other fun femme things. Today I’m trying out the Bombshell Bratye, part of the Bratyes range of cage bras.

My order from Tyes By Tara arrived beautifully packaged. The items were wrapped in pink tissue paper and tied with ribbons, and came with a handwritten card from my contact and some additional information about the company. This level of customer care and attention to detail is great to see.

What is a Bratye?

Bratyes are open cage style bras (or harnesses, if you prefer) that accentuate the wearer’s breasts without covering anything up. They are made of elastic, lace, or chain, depending on the design.

I received the Bombshell Bratye. This bra is made of soft, elasticated straps and is available in either black or white. The straps frame the breasts and the centre point is adorned with a pretty black satin bow.

It closes behind the neck in a halter style with a clasp, and at the back with a simple hook-on fastening.

Aesthetic and How to Wear

The Bombshell Bratye is wonderfully versatile. You could wear it over a tight dress or top for a risque twist to your night out look, add it to your favourite lingerie set, or even wear it by itself.

I also tried it with some nipple pasties I had in my collection (no, I’m not sharing that picture!) You could also complete the look with a set of Pastyes. Pair it with some kitten ears for pet-play, add matching cuffs and a collar for a submissive look, or slip it on over latex or a catsuit for a Domme vibe. The possibilities are endless.

To me, the look is soft-bondage influenced while still being feminine. The bow softens the harness aesthetic, giving you a kink-inspired yet flirty and fun look.

Sizing and Fit

Bratyes are one-size-fits-most and are adjustable. The back strap features a simple slider adjustment, and the neck clasp features nine different loops for maximum adjustability. The elastic is also very stretchy.

Exact sizing info (i.e. minimum and maximum sizes) isn’t listed on the website. I’ve fed this back and suggested it, as I’m sure this would be useful to lots of you. To give you an idea, my current bra band size is 34″ and the Bombshell Bratye could easily go much bigger or smaller than this.

Since this bra/harness is open-cup, I did not run across the predictable “my boobs don’t fit” issue that comes with trying to wear one-size lingerie when you have G-cups. The stretchy elastic straps were more than adequate to frame my breasts. The beauty of this sort of design is that it’ll work for just about any chest size, whether you’re an AA or a GG.

Naturally, this style of bra doesn’t offer much in the way of support. But that’s not really the point of it! It doesn’t have any wires and, thanks to the softness of the elastic, is comfortable to wear.

Final Thoughts

When I looked at the Bratyes on the website, I was a little unsure. I loved the aesthetic but really didn’t think they’d fit me (or work on someone with boobs the size of mine.)

I’m very happy to be proven wrong, because the Bombshell Bratye is gorgeous. For me, it’s just the right combination of femme and kinky, as well as being well-made and comfy!

A super-sexy and versatile piece I’m sure I will wear again and again. Tyes By Tara have knocked it out of the park yet again.

The Bombshell Bratye retails for $28 (about £21) and you can get 10% off this or any other order at Tyes By Tara by using my discount code, “coffeeandkink”.

[Wearable Review] Tyes By Tara Sex Kitten Tyera

I’m delighted to be reviewing more Tyes By Tara products this week. This award-winning, woman-owned brand makes beautiful accessories, adornments, and other wearables that are both cute and sexy. I received the Sex Kitten Tyera to try.

Sex Kitten Tyera

The Sex Kitten cat ears headband is part of the Tyera (tiara – get it?) headwear collection. It’s a headband featuring a pair of black kitty ears.

Sex Kitten Tyera by Tyes by Tara

The headband itself is made of a rigid but flexible material (I’m assuming plastic) and is coated in black fuzzy material that looks, well, a little like a cat’s fur! Each ear is adorned with a little black satin bow.

I was initially worried that the black fuzz would shed but, after several outings, I’m pleased to report it looks and feels good as new.

Aesthetic

You know when you wear an item of clothing or an accessory that just feels perfectly “you”? That’s how I feel when I put the Sex Kitten Tyera on!

Black cat ears headband, Sex Kitten Tyera cat ears tiara

Cat ears have been part of my signature look for years, and they’re one of the main things (along with the purple hair) that people remember me for when I meet them at events. I’ve tried many different cat ears headbands and some clip-on cat ears over the years, some of which I’ve liked more than others.

The Sex Kitten Tyera is the perfect balance of playful and sexy. The little bows give it an adorable femme twist. By the way: they also go beautifully with pieces from the Bratyes line, one of which I’m reviewing later this week, or with the Vixen Tyecuffs for a kinky edge.

I’m not much of a pet-player myself, though the idea does somewhat appeal to me. But if being a human pet is your thing, these ears are the perfect accessory to tap into your inner kitty. When I slip them on, I just want to go out on the prowl…

Comfort & Wearability

As someone who is prone to headaches, comfort is of paramount importance for anything I wear on my head.

Woman with purple hair and cat ears accessory

I have a lovely pair of glittery ears that I bought in San Francisco, but the headband is metal so I can’t wear them for too long or they start to cause me pain.

Fortunately, the Sex Kitten Tyera is super comfortable. The band is flexible enough that it will fit most people, and it doesn’t dig into the side of your head. I’ve happily worn it all evening long on several occasions without pain or discomfort.

Verdict

Tyes By Tara banner

Whether I’m feeling high femme or femme fatale, playful kitten or fierce feline, or these ears are a fun way to accessorise an outfit for a night out (or in!) I love them!

The Sex Kitten Tyera retails for $20 (that’s around £16) and you can get 10% off your entire order when you use my code “coffeeandkink” at checkout.

Purrrrrrrfect!

[Kink Product Review] Bondage Boutique Glow-in-the-Dark Collar and Lead

This month I’ve partnered with Lovehoney to bring you a series of reviews for Sex In Full Colour in honour of Pride Month. I’ve been reviewing bright and colourful toys. Today we’ve got something a little different: a glow-in-the-dark collar and lead set from the Bondage Boutique range!

Vegan Leather Collar and Lead

Bondage Boutique is Lovehoney’s own brand line of affordable bondage and BDSM gear. While I’ve liked some pieces from the range more than others, they’re generally pretty solid quality beginner-friendly pieces. The new glow-in-the-dark range includes a blindfold, a silicone ball gag, a pair of cuffs, a flogger, a paddle, and this collar and lead set.

The Bondage Boutique Glow-in-the-Dark Collar and Lead set is made of vegan-friendly faux leather. As you might be aware, I have mixed feelings regarding real leather so it’s great to see more and more alternatives being offered. The collar and leash feature a black central stripe surrounded by two stripes that are white in daylight, and glow luminous green in the dark.

BDSM collar and leash set

It’s really hard to get a picture of it in the dark with the mediocre camera I have, so here’s one from the official product page:

BDSM collar and leash glowing in the dark

The collar and leash are connected by a 35.5″ chain which can be unclipped from the D-ring at the front centre of the collar. The leash features a looped handle in matching black and white faux leather. Comfortable to hold and convenient for keeping your pet close to you!

The product copy says this collar is “submersible” but honestly I wouldn’t recommend getting it wet. Splashes won’t do it any harm, but I wouldn’t wear it in the shower or swimming pool.

Look and Style

The black-and-white look of this collar is just unusual enough to be eyecatching, but also means it will work with most outfits. The aesthetic isn’t either particularly masculine or particularly feminine (in my opinion), so it can potentially work for a wide array of different gender expressions.

Kinky collar and lead set BDSM toy in vegan leather

The glow-in-the-dark effect is fun and quirky. You’ll never lose your submissive in a dark sex dungeon again! Overall, this collar looks stylish and understated in the light, then fun and playful in the dark.

You tell me what you think, but I think it looks really cute on me!

Woman wearing a BDSM faux leather collar vegan leather

Make and Quality

One of the things I like about the Bondage Boutique products is that they generally provide well-made items for a fraction of the price you’d pay for bespoke kink gear. While I love a high-end piece as much as anyone, it’s vital that beginners and kinksters on restricted budgets have access to safe, quality toys.

The Bondage Boutique Glow-in-the-Dark Collar and Lead set appears well made and robust. The stitching is neat and strong, and the hardware pieces are securely fastened to the faux leather. You can safely tug on your submissive’s collar or leash without any worry about damaging them. (Obviously be very careful – this collar isn’t delicate, but necks are!)

Fit and Comfort

The Glow-in-the-Dark Collar and Lead set is fully adjustable. The collar features 7 sizing holes and you could probably add another easily enough with the right tool. But it measures 20.5″ in total length and will fit the vast majority of neck sizes as it is.

I found this collar comfortable and enjoyable to wear. The material is soft and flexible and doesn’t irritate my skin. The band is narrow enough that I can wear it comfortably for hours without it affecting my posture. (I have intermittent neck and upper back pain, and collars that are too wide can exacerbate it if I wear them for too long.)

From a comfort perspective, the only downside is that the material doesn’t really “breathe” so my neck gets very sweaty after a while. If you’re wearing it in a warm environment, you might want to take it off for a few minutes occasionally to let your skin breathe.

Verdict: Enjoy Your Glow Up

This is a really cute, fun, and versatile collar and lead set. It’s also well made, strong, comfortable, and should last you a good long time. Best of all, it retails for an incredibly affordable £14.99.

Don’t forget that you can get 10% off at Lovehoney with the code “coffkink10” at checkout!

[Kink Product Review] Tyes By Tara Vixen Tyecuffs

I’m delighted to welcome Tyes By Tara as my newest affiliate company. As soon as the team reached out to me, I knew I wanted to get my hands on some of their lovely products and share them with you all. This small, woman-founded and award-winning brand is based in the US and offers 15 categories of products including bratyes (harness and cage bras), niptyes (non-piercing nipple clamps and adornments), jewellery, and – most interesting to me – tyecuffs.

I’ll be honest, the entire Tyes By Tara collection is a dream for a femme like myself. Elegant and eyecatching pieces that are by turns playful and sensual? Hell yes!

A Touch of Luxury

Vixen Tyecuffs soft bondage handcuffs

My Tyes By Tara items came discreetly packaged in a plain box. Inside, they were beautifully wrapped in tissue paper and tied with ribbon. The parcel included not just my cuffs, but also a card with care instructions, a kind note from my contact at the company, and even a bonus free tyelet!

The customer care and attention to detail is excellent and much appreciated. The luxurious packaging and presentation got me even more excited to try out the products.

Vixen Tyecuffs: Bondage with a Femme Focus

I was spoiled for choice when it came to what to try. But, being the #Sparklefemme that I am, I had to settle on the Vixen Tyecuffs. These wide cuffs are made from sparkly rhinestone mesh and finished with satin ribbon ties.

Rhinestone handcuffs for BDSM

The Vixen Tyecuffs are available in four colourways: Black with black ribbons, diamond with black ribbons, white with white ribbons, and pink with white ribbons. They’re all beautiful, but it was the black-on-black set that caught my eye.

I can’t tell you how much I love these cuffs! They’re just absolutely gorgeous, even prettier than they look on the website. I love the way the rhinestones catch the light when I move.

Woman with hands tied up in bondage cuffs

There are some items that make me feel happy and confident just by wearing them, and these cuffs fall into that category. They speak to two aspects of my identity that are hugely important to me: my femme-ness and my submissiveness.

The Vixen Tyecuffs are comfortable, too. They’re light enough that I can put them on and then wear them for hours. They don’t irritate my skin or make my wrists sweaty. When we can finally go to sex clubs again (fuck you Covid) they’ll make a sleek and sexy addition to my outfits.

Fit and Functionality

My Vixen Tyecuffs came with very very long ribbons. Even with the cuffs tied, they still dragged on the floor when I was standing! Fortunately, the very long ribbons mean the cuffs will fit literally anyone, no matter your wrist size (they also work just as well on ankles!)

Vixen Tyecuffs rhinestone BDSM handcuffs

Just pop the cuffs on, work out how long you need the ribbons and how long you want the tails to be, then trim them to size. Don’t forget to allow extra length if you’re going to tie them to anything!

The Vixen Tyecuffs are strong and sturdily made. Despite their delicate appearance, they don’t feel as though they are flimsy or liable to break in the course of normal use.

Ribbon handcuffs for kink and BDSM

With that said, these are definitely cuffs that are for decoration and light bondage. You could certainly get tied to the bed or get your hands tied behind your back with the Vixen Tyecuffs. But they’re not designed to bear a lot of weight, so don’t use them for kinky activities where you’re putting weight on your wrists. And maybe switch out for more traditional cuffs if you’re doing a harder struggling-against-your-bonds scene!

Bonus Tyelet

I also received a bonus Tye-of-the-Month in the form of the Trainwreck Tyelet. This is a lovely little bracelet that is made of soft, stretchy elastic and features a cute black satin bow. It’s like wearing a little bow tie on my wrist!

Tyelet bow tie bracelet

The aesthetic is subtle enough to wear in public without raising eyebrows, but kinky enough to make me smile mischievously every time I look at it.

It’s actually very slightly too big for me, as I have teeny-tiny wrists, but it doesn’t need to fit snugly and still looks super cute.

Verdict & Discount Code

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Absolutely love them!

The Vixen Tyecuffs retail for a great value $25 (that’s around £18 to my fellow Brits.) The Trainwreck Tyelet retails for $18 (£13). You can also get 10% off anything on the site using my code “coffeeandkink” at checkout!

If you’re looking for a sweet and sexy treat for yourself or the femme in your life, take a look at the collection. I’m sure you’ll find something you love.

[Lingerie Review] Lovehoney Fifty Shades of Grey Captivate Bra Set

I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone that I’m not a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey. At alllll. But, as I said a long time ago, a lot of people are – and if they’re going to look for sexy products based on that franchise, I want them to at least get decent quality stuff for their money.

With that said, I was excited to receive three items of lingerie to review from Lovehoney’s new Fifty Shades inspired line in time for Valentine’s day. Today, we’re looking at the Black and Gold Captivate Bra Set.

First impressions…

This set is a bit of a departure from my usual tastes. I don’t normally wear anything yellow/gold (not even yellow gold jewellery.) It just doesn’t really fit with my aesthetic.

With that said, I did immediately think how pretty this set was when I took it out of the packaging. It’s a two-piece bra-and-knickers set, black and decorated with embroidered gold roses. It’s elegant and it adds a different and unusual twist to your standard black lingerie.

Woman wearing black and gold lingerie Captivate Bra Set

The bra is a pretty straightforward full cup, longline underwired bra. A detachable satin strap leads from between the cups up to the attached choker, which is made of the same black lace with gold roses. The high-waisted knickers feature strappy sides and back for an unusual and sexy bondage-inspired look, plus more little roses at the point where the butt meets the lower back.

Womans butt in black and gold thong

The Captivate line is at the higher end of Lovehoney’s price range, with this Captivate Bra Set retailing for £59.99. There are a lot of gorgeous pieces in the collection, so do take a look!

Comfort and Fit

I have encountered, yet again, the eternal lingerie problem of My Boobs Just Don’t Fucking Fit.

I’m a size 14 and I ordered the large as recommended. The knickers fit me super well, and every strap is adjustable so you can get the best fit for you.

The bra though… yeah.

I understand why these lines are done in simple S/M/L sizes to make them more affordable, but it’s a real gamble whether the corresponding cup sizes will work for any individual wearer. If I had to guess, I’d say maybe the large would fit a D or DD cup? My poor G cups don’t stand a chance and just ended up feeling squished and stabbed by wires, with folds of boob spilling out every time I stand up or move.

The bra back band and straps are adjustable, so that’s a plus. But be aware of the sizing issue if you have boobs that are much bigger or smaller than the average (whatever that means) for your body size.

Look and Materials

The Captivate Bra Set is made of black satin with black lace and gold embroidery accent. The fabrics are high-quality and luxurious, and feel lovely and soft against my skin. Its clear to me that these pieces are well-made and, with the right care, should last a good long time.

Woman posing in Lovehoney lingerie Captivate Bra Set

I think this set is objectively very pretty, but I’m not sure it looks great on me. The shape of the knickers is flattering and enhances my curves and butt, but I’m not convinced the yellow/gold is a great colour on me.

Verdict

I’ll almost certainly wear the knickers again, because they fit well and I love the shape. The bra, sadly, is a complete no-go for me and I’ll probably pass it on to someone else with a smaller cup size.

A lovely set for the right wearer, but not a big winner for me.

Check out the range.

[Lingerie Review] Lovehoney Empress Body

Today is the first of two lingerie reviews that will be featured in my #12DaysofLovehoney series. I first received pictures of the Empress collection quite a while ago, and I was smitten from first sight! It was hard to choose the piece I liked most, but I eventually settled on the Empress body.

Let’s dive in, shall we? Oh, and while you’re here, check out all the posts in this series.

Empress Body: First Impressions

Empress is a line of black and red lingerie from Lovehoney. The line features four different styles, and all are also available in plus size variations.

The Empress Body is a one-piece black lace body with red satin detailing. It features a plunging neckline, high-cut leg, and low back. There are also removeable suspenders, so you can wear it with matching stockings or by itself. Here’s how it looks on the model:

Lovehoney model wearing the Empress Body

My first impression when I took the Empress Body out of the packaging was of quality and luxury. The materials feel lovely and it’s obviously beautifully made. I couldn’t wait to try it on and see how it looked.

Fit & Comfort

The Empress Body fits me really well! The waist band is stretchy and the bra style clasps at the back have three settings. The shoulder straps and suspenders are also highly adjustable.

Me wearing the Lovehoney Empress Body

It even contains my boobs reliably unless I lie down on my side (in which case they do whatever they damn well please and I am yet to find the garment that can stop them!) It’s nice to have an item of lingerie I can walk around in without feeling as though I’m having to tuck my nipples back into it every few seconds.

I wear a size 14 and I ordered the large as recommended, which ran true to size.

Me wearing the Lovehoney Empress Body

The Empress Body is even reasonably comfortable. The lace is soft and feels nice against my skin, and there are no uncomfortable wires or pinchy/scratchy bits.

Another nice touch is the popper fastenings on the crotch. My partner appreciated being able to pop them open and says they give the Empress Body an extra few points from him!

Look & Materials

The Empress Body is just absolutely gorgeous! The scalloped lace is luxurious and elegent, while the red detailing is super striking.

Me wearing the Lovehoney Empress Body

I particularly love the shape of this piece. The red band sits at the narrowest part of the waist and creates a gorgeous hourglass silhouette. And the plunging neckline emphasises the breasts and creates phenomenal cleavage!

I feel so sexy in this item. It’s been a long time since a piece of lingerie made me feel this good.

Final thoughts

I absolutely adore this piece – I’m so, so impressed with it! I hope we can go to sex clubs again sometime in the not too distant future so that I can wear it and show it off. I think it would pair wonderfully with some ruby red sky-high heels.

The Empress Body retails for £29.99 – a steal for a piece of this quality! It’s a new favourite.

[Lingerie Review] Lovehoney “Late Night Liaison” Babydoll

Some things are classic for a reason. The combination of black, lacy and sheer for sexy lingerie is one of them. Today I’m pleased to bring you a review of the black lace babydoll from Lovehoney’s new Late Night Liaison range.

Let’s take a look

I’ve declared my love for one-piece lingerie before. Okay, the Late Night Liaison babydoll is technically two pieces, since it comes with a thong. But it’s the main piece I want to focus on here.

The babydoll features a plunging neckline and criss-cross style straps at the back. Two additional straps frame the cleavage and meet in the middle. The bust and underbust panel are made of a pretty floral lace, and the skirt is a plain black mesh. The Lovehoney silver heart insignia sits at the bottom of the V-neck, between the breasts.

Here it is on the model:

The Lovehoney Late Night Liaison babydoll on a smiling, blonde-haired model
Pic courtesy of Lovehoney

Fit and Comfort

As you can see from the picture of this piece on the model, the first elasticated band is supposed to sit under the bust. On me, it sits just under my nipples. I haven’t had a bra fitting in well over a decade and have no idea what size I actually am, but I’d guess something around an F cup. If you’re any bigger than a D, don’t expect the Late Night Liaison babydoll to actually contain very much. Yes, it covers my boobs… but barely.

It’s listed as “one size,” which… argh. You guys know how I generally feel about “one size” lingerie. (Spoiler: there’s no such thing, bodies are different, I’d rather pay a bit more for something that actually fits my body!)

Since the bands are highly adjustable and the underbust (lol) band and waistband are stretchy, it’s probably technically true that anyone from a size 8 to a 16 could wear this piece. But what I would really like to see is sizing that takes different bust sizes into account.

There’s also a Plus Size version, designed to fit sizes 18-24. The two versions are otherwise identical.

As lingerie goes, the Late Night Liaison babydoll is acceptably comfortable. The lace could be softer, but it’s not horribly scratchy, and the mesh of the skirt is lovely – soft and light.

And, praise the universe, no fucking wires!

Care and Cleaning

As with most delicate items made of lace or mesh, this item is hand-wash only. Use a bowl of warm (not hot) water and some gentle detergent. You can also use the hand-wash cycle on your washing machine, if it has one.

As the fine lace and mesh can tear easily, store your lingerie away from anything with sharp bits or things it could snag on (bra straps are the worst for this!) Keeping it in a lingerie bag is a good way to keep it safe.

Aesthetics and Sex Appeal

I thought the Late Night Liaison babydoll was pretty enough when I took it out of the bag, but I really fell in love with it when I put it on.

My body in the Late Night Liaison black babydoll

The delicate floral lace is really beautiful, the shape is flattering, and I adore the way she centre straps frame my cleavage. I particularly like the extra lace panel under the bust, which gives it an unusual shape that’s a bit different from the classic babydoll.

Considering that Mr CK asked me to wear it the next time we had sex after it arrived, I’d say he’s a fan too!

Final thoughts

Despite the imperfect fit issues due to the dreaded “one size,” I’m overall a fan of this piece and will definitely be wearing it again. Pretty, flattering, wire-free lingerie that makes me feel good to wear is always a wonderful thing to find.

The Late Night Liaison babydoll retails for £29.99 from Lovehoney.

Thanks to Lovehoney for sending me this piece to review. All opinions are, as always, my own. If you enjoy my work, please sign up to Coffee Date, my new e-newsletter, to get bonus content delivered to your inbox every two weeks.

[Wearable Review] Hot For You Lingerie by Lovehoney

We all know by now, don’t we, that I am a whimsical romantic? So how could I resist some cutesy Valentine’s-themed lingerie? Hot For You is Lovehoney’s 2020 Valentine’s offering.

Things are heating up…

Hot For You consists of three sets: a bra and knickers set available in standard and plus sizes, and a thong designed for people with penises. They are all black and feature small decorative accents (hearts on the bra sets, flames on the thong) which start off black and turn to red as your body temperature rises. Cute, no?

Plus size model wearing the Hot For You lingerie from Lovehoney. For 2020 Valentine's gift guide

I got sent the Hot For You bra set to try out…

I heart this look

Aesthetically I’m really into this range. It’s playful and just a touch on the silly side without being excessively twee or over-the-top. Black is my preferred colour of choice for lingerie most of the time, and the heart accents are super cute.

Close up of a male body in the Hot For You flame design thong

(Though I wish they’d made the flame design thong for folks with vulvas too – the idea of a colour-changing fire icon over my junk just amuses me on a deep level for some reason.

Does the colour-change function actually work?

Yep!

So my house tends to get Extremely Fucking Cold at this time of year. Therefore, the first time I tried these pieces on, I… erm, blasted a hairdryer at my tits for a few seconds. (The things I do for you guys and journalism, honestly!) The hearts changed colour almost immediately in the warmth.

I later tried them on again when I wasn’t quite so cold, and they did change nicely as my body temperature warmed up.

So, yes, it does what it says on the tin.

Comfort and Fit

Yet again, these pieces are listed as “One Size.” The standard is supposed to fit sizes 8 – 16, and the plus is supposed to fit sizes 18 – 24. The bra and knickers actually are very adjustable; the bands are made of an elasticated satin material and are also length-adjustable. The bra is a halter-neck design, so be aware of that. If you find it difficult to tie things behind you, you might want to get someone to help you.

Though these pieces function as “One Size” better than many I’ve tried, I still have the familiar recurring problem: my boobs don’t really fit. The standard bra and knickers set fits me quite nicely (I’m about a size 14 right now,) but really barely contained my probably-an-F-cup boobs at all. The spilling-out look can be fun if that’s your sort of thing, but I prefer a bit more coverage unless I’m intentionally going for revealing.

A close up of a person with large breasts wearing the Hot For You bra

The standard Hot For You set is really designed for folks who are more like an A – D cup. It’s frustrating that lingerie designs always assume that bigger body = bigger boobs, which isn’t true at all! Some people wear a size 8 but have F-cup boobs. Some people are plus-size but have small boobs! This is always going to be an issue in “One Size” pieces, which is why I generally wish that making sexy lingerie based on actual measurements (i.e. cup and band sizes) was more of a thing.

(Though, I have to admit, my partners were in favour of the “boobs falling out” look.)

The bra provides next to no actual support, but… I mean, it’s not like I was going jogging in it, and I don’t wear bras most of the time anyway, so *shrug.*

The sizing issue notwithstanding, the Hot For You set gets good marks for comfort. The mesh material is soft and non-scratchy, and the stretchy satin bands feel nice against the skin. There are no wires or boning, so nothing to dig in or pinch.

Final thoughts

A cute and inexpensive Valentine’s day gift – for your lover or yourself! (Fun idea: wear this set to bed and see how long it takes your lover to notice that the hearts or flames are changing colour!)

The Hot For You bra sets both retail for £19.99, and the thong is £14.99.

[Wearable Review] Lovehoney “Lustre” Quarter Cup Body Harness

Sometimes I get offered items for review and my internal response is “ugh, fine, I guess” if I’m not blown away by something but I think my readers will like it. Other times, I get offered something for review and I take one look and go “I NEED IT.” The Lustre range by Lovehoney was the latter.

Two categories of product that I’m eternally obsessed with are Things That Are Purple and Things That Are Shiny. Lustre is both.

After perusing the collection, I ended up choosing the Quarter Cup Body Harness to try. This is partly, let’s be honest, because I’m lazy and I enjoy one-piece items of clothing for that reason. But it’s also because the Body Harness is the only item in the range not to have full bra cups, and my typical experience with adjustable/one-size lingerie is that my boobs simply don’t fit. Ordering something where they’re meant to spill out seemed like a neat solution to this problem.

Model wearing the Lustre Quarter Cup Body Harness from Lovehoney

Let’s see how I got on, shall we?

TW: mentions of sizeism, please skip if that’s going to be difficult for you.

Initial Impressions

My first impression, when I took my Lustre Body Harness out of the packaging, was that I am simply in love with the colour! The lace is a gorgeous, rich purple and has a lovely, subtle shine to it that catches the light every time you move.

What I’m not so into is the “frayed edge” aesthetic of the lace. I understand what they’re going for here but I think it takes the elegant edge off the range and frankly looks a bit, well, scruffy. Of course, this is a personal preference and others may love it.

Getting into it…

My #LazyFemme tactics came back to bite me, here. One-piece this thing may be, but easy to get into (or out of) it is certainly not! Because everything – the collar, bra, mid-section and suspenders – is all joined together, the Lustre Body Harness is straps and straps and straps galore! It took me a couple of attempts to get into it. I kept being afraid I was going to rip something! I certainly won’t be wearing it on any occasion where getting out of and back into clothing might be an issue, such as a play party. Which is a shame because play parties are the main occasions where I tend to wear lingerie.

A couple of pro tips garnered through trial and error:

  1. Loosen all the adjustable straps first. It’s much easier to get into the garment then tighten them to fit you than trying to struggle into it and adjusting them as you go.
  2. Get into the harness feet-first, rather than trying to pull it over your head. But be careful as you ease it up over your body and into place. You don’t want to damage the delicate lace.

A word of warning: the Lustre Body Harness has build-in suspenders which are not removeable, so you’ll need to get some suitable stockings to wear with it.

Fit

Lingerie manufacturers everywhere, listen to me: I love you but can you all PLEASE STOP making things in “one size?”

This piece ostensibly fits a size 8-16. However, I wear a size 14 and I had most of the straps as extended as they’ll go, and it was still a bit on the small side. There is zero chance this item is going to fit someone who’s a size 16, and it’s really not ideal for anyone who is bigger than maybe a 12.

Instead of endlessly adjustable “one size” items, I’d love to see lingerie manufacturers just making things in a wider range of sizes. There are two plus size pieces in the Lustre range but this, unfortunately, is not one of them.

Once again, I feel that this piece was made with thin bodies in mind and the rest of us are left trying to squeeze ourselves into something which, though it might technically fit (just,) really wasn’t made for us.

Comfort

The lace isn’t exactly soft, but I didn’t find it excessively scratchy or irritating either. The straps are a soft and stretchy material which feels nice against the skin.

The bra cups are the worst thing about this item, comfort-wise. Because they’re rigid and have underwires, they will only work well for a certain sub-section of bodies. They are far too small for my probably E or F cup boobs. (I don’t actually know what size I am but I was a DD a decade ago and they’ve definitely grown since then). The wires cut into my ribcage in a way that was first uncomfortable and then, after a while, became painful.

How did I feel wearing it?

This piece has grown on me over the several times I’ve tried it on. I love a lot of things about it: the way it leaves my back almost completely exposed, the way the middle section emphasises the curve of my waist and stomach, the fetishy look of the lace collar. I definitely feel hot when I look in the mirror wearing this one!

Unfortunately, because of the issues with the fit I don’t see myself wearing it regularly and certainly not for any length of time.

Final thoughts

This one has so much potential! The design and aesthetic is absolutely gorgeous. If you’re a size 12 or smaller, I’m happy to recommend this piece. For those of us like me who are curvier, though, the problems with the fit are too great for me to be able to wholeheartedly recommend it.

The Lustre Quarter Cup Body Harness retails for £39.99 but at time of writing is on sale for £23.99.

[Wearable Review] Lovehoney “Free Spirit” Bra Set

I’ve had this set for quite a while, but have been struggling to know what to say about it. Lingerie is, in some ways, much harder to review than other products such as sex toys or kink gear. What we individually find aesthetically pleasing in clothing, and what fits each of our wonderful and unique bodies, is so infinitely variable that it’s often hard to know how to review lingerie in a way that is likely to be helpful to anyone. With that said, let’s take a look at this offering from Lovehoney’s Free Spirit lingerie line.

Content warning: this review touches briefly on sizeism and clothing being made with thin folks in mind. Please feel free to skip if that’s going to be difficult for you!

Initial Impressions

“I hate pink,” I text my partner. But this isn’t fair – I don’t hate pink per se. It’s a perfectly attractive colour, taken in isolation. What I hate are the associations of pink. The way that anything that’s assumed to be “for women” (let’s not unpack all the problems with that right now) is plastered in it as if all 3.5 billion of us just go mad over this one specific colour. The fact that it’s used – along with blue – to aggressively gender infants before they are old enough to have any sense of who they really are. The fucking pink tax. But I digress.

The Free Spirit lingerie lines look pinkish-purple, almost lilac, on the website images. In real life, though, these pieces are most definitely PINK. Paired with the dark blue straps and detailing, the effect is quite striking, though I can’t say it’s really my aesthetic. For a certain type of femme look, though, it’s cute.

My other first impression was “lol my tits are never gonna fit in that.” We’ll talk more about fit shortly.

My Free Spirit bra set came simply packaged in a transparent plastic wrap.

Getting into it…

Anyone who has seen me try on lingerie will know that it is not, typically, a sexy sight. It usually involves me getting tangled in straps, swearing, possibly falling over, and trying not to ruin some fancy lace with my unkempt fingernails. So I seriously appreciate that rarest of holy grails: lingerie that is easy to put on and take off.

The Free Spirit bra was a breeze – you adjust the band to fit, slip it over your head and into place, and tie it up. Be aware that the bra is a halter-neck style, so if you struggle to tie things behind you you’ll need to ask someone to help you fasten it up.

The knickers, though, are another story. As you can see from the images, they are straps and straps and straps galore! It took me a number of attempts to get into them properly, and then I kept finding one strap or another twisted and having to readjust. I’d never wear these to an event where I thought I might be having sex, because it would take me half an hour to get back into them afterwards!

Fit

This set is pitched as “one size fits most” but we all know that isn’t really a thing. I strongly suspect that the “one size” thing is a way to keep costs down, as this line is markedly cheaper than many other Lovehoney lingerie ranges. And it is extremely clear from the design of this set that, though it may be adjustable and ostensibly fit anyone up to a size 16, it was ultimately designed with smaller bodies in mind.

I currently wear a UK size 14 and I didn’t find these pieces to be a good fit. My boobs are… probably a E or F cup at this point? (I don’t really know, I haven’t had a bra fitting in like a decade.) And the Free Spirit bra really did not contain them at all. The adjustable band and tie-up halterneck worked well, but the one-size cups will be woefully inadequate for anyone above a C cup.

The knickers were more of the same. The waistband is adjustable, but the thin decorative straps, though stretchy, are not. They stretched uncomfortably over my stomach and pulled the whole piece out of shape. They dug in and kept twisting out of shape, and the thong was pulled so far up my butt that I felt like the damn thing was trying to cut me in half!

This set is supposedly for UK sizes 8 – 16, and there is a plus-size version for sizes 18 – 24. Interestingly, the plus-size version has different knickers which come without all the strappy bits, which I think proves my point that these knickers were designed with thin folks in mind.

If you are a size 8-10, this set may work well for you. If you wear a larger size or have larger breasts, I recommend looking elsewhere.

Comfort

The lace is not as soft as the lace Lovehoney use on some of their other lingerie pieces, though I suppose that is to be expected at this comparatively low price-point. It’s not horribly scratchy or anything, but don’t expect it to feel super luxurious either. The satin of the bands is soft and feels nice against the skin, though.

The poor fit was the real comfort killer, though, and I don’t see myself wearing this set again now that I’ve written this review.

How did I feel wearing it?

As you’ve probably gathered, this set didn’t work for me. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad design or there’s anything wrong with it as such, but it wasn’t a good fit for my body. It emphasised all the bits of my body I’m uncomfortable with, and made me feel inadequate because it was clearly not designed with people of my body-type in mind.

I want to wear lingerie that makes me look in the mirror and go “yes!” This was not that.

Final thoughts

Overall, I think this is the least strong of Lovehoney’s recent lingerie offerings. Moonlight and Wild Blooms blew me away, and some of their one-size body stockings and mini-dresses have worked well for me… but this range would really have benefited from being made in a wider array of sizing options.

I applaud Lovehoney for creating a lower-priced offering, but I’m underwhelmed by the execution.

The Free Spirit Bra Set retails for £19.99.
