[Lube Review] Aloe Lube by Kink

As someone who is both very choosy about lube and gets through a lot of it, I’m always on the lookout for good options. Many lubes (most, really) contain ingredients that aren’t friendly to the delicate tissue of our genitals, and some that are even actively harmful. Kink Store kindly sent me their five-ingredient aloe-based lube to try out.

Kink Aloe Lube: What’s In It?

A bottle of Kink Store aloe-based lube

Aloe Lube by Kink Store is an all-natural lubricant containing just five ingredients:

  • Purified water
  • Aloe extract: Aloe vera is a succulent plant that stores a clear, gel-like substance in its leaves. Aloe gel is 99% water but also contains polysaccharides, vitamins, and enzymes that have a soothing, hydrating effect on skin. Aloe-based ingredients are common in skincare and post-sunburn care for this reason, but they’re also ideal in lube. If you have a vulva, a good aloe lube is a great option because it will not disrupt the natural pH of your vagina.
  • Plant cellulose (cotton): A natural thickening agent that is widely used in personal lubricants and is hypoallergenic and non-irritating.
  • Pepper extract: I was a little surprised by this one! Pepper extracts are occasionally found in some warming or tingling lubes and arousal products, but Kink Aloe Lube did not have any such effect (nor was it advertised as such.) I have to assume it’s in such tiny quantities that it’s unlikely to have any significant effect unless you’re sensitive to it.
  • Forsythia extract: A plant-based antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient.

And that’s it!

Unless you have allergies or sensitivities to any of the ingredients, this is a body-safe and gentle lubricant. It contains no parabens, glycerin, fragrances, or synthetic flavourings.

In Use

Kink Store Aloe Lube has a fairly thick texture, with an almost gel-like consistency. If you find other water-based lubes too runny or liquid-y for your needs, this is a great alternative. Thanks to the thickness, it’s particularly good for anal play or other activities requiring plenty of lube. It does dry up after a bit, so be prepared to re-apply as necessary, but that’s pretty standard for a water-based product.

Kink Aloe Lube has virtually no smell and very little taste. What little taste I could detect was neutral and unobtrusive. This makes it a good option for oral sex. It is non-sticky, doesn’t leave residue behind, and won’t stain your sheets. As an extra bonus, it also leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised, most likely thanks to the aloe.

Kink Aloe Lube is compatible with all condom and other barrier materials, and all sex toy materials including silicone.

Kink Aloe-Based Lube: Verdict

This is a great lube. It does exactly what I want a lube to do: keeps things slick and slippery, without any unpleasant sensory experience or leftover residue. Simple, natural, body-friendly, and effective. Ideal!

At $10 for a 250ml bottle, it’s a steal.
