[Guest Post] We Cancelled the Threesome and Bought a Sex Machine

Today’s guest post is kindly sponsored by Hismith, manufacturer and retailer of premium sex machines.

My partner and I had been talking about a threesome for six months. It started on a road trip, one of those conversations where you’re tired and honest and the guardrails come down. Neither of us had done it before and we both found the idea electric: bringing someone new into the mix, seeing each other through someone else’s eyes, breaking out of the five-year routine that had started to feel a little too predictable.

But the hypothetical discussions that were fun at midnight felt heavy and a little too real in the light of day. The logistics alone were a nightmare. Coordinating three schedules, managing jealousy, finding someone we both liked—it suddenly felt less like planning great sex and more like executing a corporate merger. Every time we found someone we thought we might be into, the same questions and insecurities arose. Who was more into them? Whose idea even was this, really?

That’s when it hit us: what we actually wanted wasn’t an extra person in our bedroom. It was just… something new. Something that would shake up our routine without shaking up our relationship. So we tabled the idea of opening up our relationship and started looking at things we could enjoy just the two of us instead. Ultimately, we bought the Hismith 4.0 Premium.

I didn’t expect it to work. Not the machine itself; I’d read enough reviews to feel confident it would perform. What I didn’t expect was how much this new sexual adventure would bring to our relationship.

You might (reasonably!) wonder why we’d spend nearly $600 on a sex machine instead of choosing something cheaper and less space-intensive, like a dildo or vibrator. But when we started looking at toys together, we realised that what we were looking for wasn’t just power or speed, but a toy to play a specific role. A typical vibrator or dildo still requires someone to hold it, position it, control the rhythm. A sex machine, though, takes this labour out of the equation. My partner could lie next to me, witnessing my pleasure without any physical obligation to perform. The Hismith sex machine enabled us to shift between the roles of active participant and relaxed witness, and that’s what ultimately made the threesome fantasy unnecessary. We didn’t actually want a third person. We just wanted the equivalent of a third pair of hands.

The Specs

The Hismith 4.0 Premium has a stainless steel and ABS plastic body. Its 100W brushless turbine motor can deliver up to 267 strokes per minute, with a stroke length that’s adjustable from 1.3”up to 5.03”. It retails for $599/£599.

Fully adjustable, the Hismith 4.0 allows you to enjoy various different positions. One One silicone dildo (5.8” insertable length) is included, and the KlicLok system allows you to purchase and use additional attachments if you like. It also comes with a wired digital display controller, a set of antiskid covers, an adaptor, a canvas storage and travel bag, and the various components you’ll need to set it up.

This machine weighs 11.5kg and measures 18.03” x 17.67” x 10.23” when fully assembled.

What We Loved About This Hismith Sex Machine

The Hismith 4.0’s KlicLok quick-change system is a breeze to use. I’ve tried machines where swapping out one attachment for another meant sweating over a tiny screw while the whole thing wobbled. With this one, though, it’s as quick and easy as swapping a camera lens. With different types, textures, and sizes of toys available, you might find yourself swapping them more than you think, sometimes mid-session. But because there’s zero friction to doing it, there’s no reason not to.

The Hismith app also pleasantly surprised me. I’m cynical about smart toys, which are often laggy and frustrating to use. But the Hismith 4.0’s Bluetooth connection was rock solid and responsive, with virtually no delay.

Noise-wise, this machine definitely makes a noticeable sound, but the level is totally acceptable. The brushless motor hums but doesn’t scream. If your walls are thin, you might want to stick to lower settings late at night or when others are home.

Things to Be Aware Of

I love this machine, but storage is an issue. This thing pretty much as to live out in the open. Though a large carrying case is included, it’s not a “tuck in the nightstand drawer and forget about it” product. If you have room-mates or nosy visitors, plan your setup accordingly. And if you live in a small apartment and space is at a premium, you might like to consider a mini sex machine instead.

The Shifts That Surprised Me: What The Hismith 4.0 Sex Machine Did For My Sex Life

The biggest surprise wasn’t the pleasure and orgasms this machine gave–that was expected. No, what surprised me the most was the pressure it lifted.

I’m the type of person who worries about performance during sex. “Is this taking too long?” “Is my rhythm off?” “Are they still enjoying this or do they just wish I’d hurry up and finish already?” With this machine, that anxiety evaporated. There’s nothing to manage because there’s no person on the other end to disappoint. No coordination is required. Just presence. The machine does the labor and all you have to do is feel. If you’ve ever been the partner who worries you can’t last long enough, or the partner who worries they’re asking for too much, you might recognise the relief you feel when you find a solution that works. For us, that solution was a fucking machine.

The first time we tried the Hismith sex machine, my partner said something I think about a lot. They said: “I finally got to fully relax and just watch you feel good, without carrying the pressure of having to make it all happen.” That’s not something a handheld toy can offer, but it also wouldn’t have been a fair expectation to put on a third person. The machine allows us to go as long as we want and stop when we’re done.

Is the Hismith 4.0 Sex Machine Worth It?

$600 is a significant investment, and this machine isn’t going to be“impulse purchase” territory for most people. But the build quality is exceptional. And, compared to the emotional cost of a threesome we absolutely were’nt ready for, it was a bargain.

If you’re looking for something that functions as an extra pair of hands without the pressure, jealousy, or scheduling hell of opening up your relationship, a sex machine can be a fabulous investment. Just maybe skip it if you don’t have the storage space!

[Toy Review] UEROS Nexus Power Sex Machine

What’s that saying? You wait ages to get to review a sex machine and then two come along at once? Something like that, anyway. Following my recent review of VVD’s ride-on sex saddle machine, this week I’m testing out (one of) the other kind(s) of sex machine: the traditional “fucking machine.” Namely, the Nexus Power hands-free sex machine from UEROS.

What is the UEROS Nexus Power Fucking Machine?

Sex machines, AKA fucking machines, are devices designed to mimic the experience of having penetrative sex with a penis-owning partner (or a partner using a strap-on, I guess!)

The UEROS Nexus Power is a sex machine that you can use either freestanding or handheld. It measures 7.6″x6.2″x2.3″ not including the size of any attachments. The main device comes with two insertable attachments: a dual-motor vibrator and a rotating bead attachment. A remote control and storage case are also provided.

The Nexus Power is rechargeable, giving around 50 minutes runtime from a 90 minute charge. The attachments are waterproof, but the main device is not. Its attachments are made from body-safe silicone. The main body is available in black or silver, and the attachments are black for both models.

The Nexus Power fucking machine comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty.

UEROS Nexus Power Sex Machine Review: What I Liked

Sex machines vary wildly in price, from cheap hand-held versions up to huge structures that cost thousands and take up half your bedroom. The Nexus Power is a relatively affordable fucking machine with a sleek aesthetic that impressed me as soon as I took it out of the box.

UEROS sex machine in pieces

As is traditional, let’s get into this sex machine review by looking at the things I liked about the product!

  • The overall look and feel, from the heavy-duty case to the soft silicone, is high quality.
  • Setting up the UEROS Nexus Power is easy, as is switching between attachments. This video shows you how to set it up in moments.
  • The multi-angle stand allows you to use the Nexus Power in tonnes of different positions and configurations. Since all bodies are different, it also makes it simple to adjust until you find an angle that works best for you. It also means you can use the Nexus Power for anal as well as vaginal play, if that’s your jam. The device’s main body rotates up to 230 degrees, while the stand tilts in a 130 degree range.
  • The powerful suction cup base keeps the machine affixed to a floor or other surface. I’ve never found it to come loose or detach, even on the most intense settings.
UEROS Nexus Power sex machine attachments

  • The two-motor vibrating dildo offers 3 intensity settings and 3 patterns, while the rotating attachment has 2 rotation intensities and 4 patterns. This gives you plenty of options and combinations to play with to find what works for you. You can also simply use the thrusting mechanism without the vibrations or rotation, or vice versa, if you prefer. There are six thrusting modes – 4 speeds and 2 patterns – to choose from, with speeds ranging from 260 to 350 thrusts per minute.
  • The remote control is a nice touch, allowing you to use the sex machine hands-free or give control to a partner.
  • The “preferred mode” function allows you to save your favourite combination of settings, saving you the hassle of adjusting every time you use the machine.
  • The travel lock gives you peace of mind when traveling with your sex machine. (I still wouldn’t attempt to take this through airport security, though…)

By the way: the UEROS Nexus Power’s attachments are condom-compatible and suitable for use with water-based lube.

Nexus Power Sex Machine Review: What I Didn’t Like

UEROS hands free sex machine

The biggest complaint I have about the Nexus Power – and it’s a big one, unfortunately – is that the thrusting mechanism sometimes just kinda cuts out or gets stuck. This seems to particularly happen close to the point of orgasm, so may be because of the vaginal walls tensing around the toy. However, it also happens if you move in the wrong way or the toy encounters any kind of resistance. This is a pretty significant problem and really undermines what was a quality toy until this point.

Even on the lowest speed, 260 thrusts per minute is pretty intense. For many users, including me, that’s more likely to be painful than pleasurable over any length of time. I would have liked to see lower speeds available too. The assumption that what most people with vaginas want is just hard and fast pounding is completely inaccurate. It also bugs me that the most intense thrusting setting is called “orgasm mode.” That’s not what triggers orgasm for literally the overwhelming majority of vulva owners.

UEROS Nexus Power Sex Machine Review: Verdict

I wanted so much to love this one, given its sexy aesthetic, highly adjustable design, and relatively affordable price. However, the problems with the mechanism cutting out or getting stuck make it hard for me to recommend it.

If UEROS ironed out those issues, I’d be shouting about how great this product is. With them, however, it’s more of a miss than a hit for me.

The UEROS Nexus Power fucking machine retails for $289 US from UEROS.

5 Things to Consider Before You Buy a Sex Machine

Compared to the various other toy categories I review all the time, such as vibrators, dildos, and strokers, sex machines (AKA fucking machines) are a relatively niche corner of the sex toy market. This is partly due to cost; choosing to buy a sex machine can be a major financial investment, costing hundreds to thousands of dollars. They can also take up a lot of space.

Even so, based on reviews I’ve read, sex machines have an enduring fan base and seem to have grown in popularity and prevalence in recent years.

A sex machine is simply a machine designed to simulate sex with a partner, particularly penetrative vaginal or anal sex. You attach a toy – such as a dildo or masturbator – to the mechanism, and the machine then thrusts back and forth. Many machines have additional features such as an adjustable angle, adjustable speeds, remote control or app-control functionality, programmable settings, space to add an external vibrator such as a wand, and more. Ride-on designs are also popular.

Many people enjoy sex machines because you can enjoy them hands-free and because they can provide a more immersive, lifelike sensation compared to other types of toys.

So if you’re thinking about making the leap, what do you need to know before you buy a sex machine?

Space Concerns

Sex machines vary in size, but even the smaller ones are much bigger than your typical hand-held sex toy. Before you buy a sex machine, always make sure you have the space for the model you’re considering. This means making sure you have a safe and spacious place to set it up and use it, but also that you have somewhere to store it if you’re not going to have it set up permanently.

If you live in a small apartment, need to be discreet, or have limited storage space available, you might want to consider one of the small sex machine models on the market. Take measurements of your space, and triple check before you click the “buy” button. Don’t forget to think about practicalities such as easy access to a power socket to plug your machine into, too.

Budget

How much a sex machine costs varies enormously. The most basic models can cost under $100, while high end sex machines can run into thousands of dollars. Before you start shopping, decide what kind of budget you’re comfortable with. Before you buy one, consider the budget you’re comfortable allocating for a sex machine.

In general, cheaper machines will be more basic and have fewer features. However, they might still suit your needs just fine if you’re on a budget. If you’re looking for extras such as remote or app controls or greater levels of personalisation/adjustability, you can expect to pay more.

Don’t forget to account for dildos or other attachments, lube, positioning aids, travel or storage cases, or whatever other extras you might need as well as the machine itself.

Comfort and Positioning

Learning how to use a sex machine comfortably and pleasurably can take some practice. One thing you’ll need to figure out is the most comfortable and practical positions in which to use it.

Before you buy a sex machine, think about how you will actually use it in practice.

Many people find that it is easiest to use a sex machine while reclining on their back on a bed, or face down in a “doggy style” position. Others prefer to use another surface such as a couch or spanking bench to achieve the desired position. Positioning aids such as sex furniture, sex position wedges, and sex swings can also be a great option, as can add-ons for your machine designed to adjust its height or angle to suit you.

Another aspect of comfort in use is stroke length. This simply means how far back and forth the toy moves when the machine is switched on. A longer stroke length will give you deeper penetration, while a shorter stroke length will give you shallower penetration. Some machines offer adjustable stroke length, while others are fixed at one particular length.

Before You Buy a Sex Machine, Consider Toy Compatibility

Some sex machines come with a dildo (or several) included. Others don’t have toys included and you will need to buy these separately. Sex machine attachments don’t stop at standard dildos, either. You can also get fantasy toys, ejaculating or squirting dildos, anal toys, masturbation sleeves, and much more.

Your sex machine will be compatible with toys using a certain attachment type, and this can vary between manufacturers and machine models. This may mean you won’t be able to use your existing toys with your new sex machine, or you may need to buy an adaptor to enable you to do so. Always check before you buy a sex machine to make sure that your toys are compatible or that you can get toys that will work for you and fit your chosen machine.

Whatever toys you choose, make sure you opt for body-safe materials. 100% silicone is best! Reviews are a great tool in helping you to find the best toys to use with your sex machine.

Aesthetic

You might not care at all what your sex machine looks like. On the other hand, you might care a lot! Perhaps you want a machine that feels like “you”, or something that ties in with the decor of your bedroom, home dungeon, or other playspace. Before you buy a sex machine, consider whether aesthetics matter to you.

Sex machines are available in numerous different designs and colours. So whether you’re looking for sleek black or silver, hot pink, or something more unusual like red, gold or blue, there’s sure to be a machine that suits your preferred aesthetic.

[Toy Review] Velvet Thruster Sex Machine Review (Frankie Attachment)

I get asked about sex machines all the time, but I rarely get an opportunity to try them out. They’re often ludicrously expensive and manufacturers are, understandably, reticent about sending them out to reviewers as a result. This means that most of my experiences with them have been one-offs at parties or play events. This month, though, I received the Velvet Thruster Sex Machine from Velvet Brands to test and review, and I’m excited to tell you all about it!

Velvet Thruster sex machine with Frankie attachment in mint green

What is a Sex Machine?

In the most expansive definition, a sex machine is any mechanical device designed to simulate sexual activity.

This means that pretty much any motorised sex toy could be considered a sex machine. However, in practice, the term “sex machine” usually describes penetrative toys that have a thrusting mechanism for simulating penis-in-vagina (or penis-in-anus) sex. Another term for these toys is “fucking machines.”

Velvet Thruster Review: Details

The Velvet Thruster is a thrusting, cordless sex machine by Velvet Brands. It allows you to use various, interchangeable heads with one unit. There are currently six penetrative silicone attachments available, plus one penis stroker attachment. Velvet Thrusters are also available in four colours: lilac, mint green, red, and black. You can choose your favourite or mix and match.

I received the Frankie attachment, which is a dildo 10″ in length (7″ insertable, bringing the entire toy to a whopping 12″ in length) and 1.2″ in diameter, with four deep ridges on the shaft just below the head.

Frankie thrusting dildo for Velvet Thruster sex machine

The Velvet Thruster comes with a suction cup, allowing you to affix it to a surface for hands-free use. A charging cable is also included.

Confusingly, the Velvet site describes the toy as “water resistant” but it’s definitely not waterproof enough to submerge it. So don’t use it the bath or shower, or in a wet environment such as a bathroom. You shouldn’t submerge the toy to clean it, either. Use a body-safe sterile wipe instead.

Velvet Thruster Sex Machine & Frankie Attachment Review: What I Liked

Danyell and Alex, the founders of Velvet Brands and designers of the Velvet Thruster, both come from an engineering background. It is unsurprising, then, that their patented toy is thoughtfully designed and built to exacting standards.

Though it’s pretty large compared to your typical dildo or vibrator, the Velvet Thruster is at the smaller end of the sex machine market. So if you want a thrusting product you can theoretically take with you on date nights/to sex clubs/through airport security, you’ve found it.

Velvet Thruster fucking machine

The Velvet Thruster’s exterior is silicone, which is not only body-safe but (appropriately) velvety soft and smooth. The pronounced ridges on the Frankie attachment offer additional internal stimulation. The Velvet Thruster’s silicone is a little grabby, so add plenty of lube.

I only have one attachment so I haven’t tried the mechanism to switch between them, but other reviews suggest it’s pretty quick and easy.

Velvet Thruster Review: What I Liked

The Velvet Thruster can thrust at up to an impressive 136 strokes per minute. If this sounds too intense for you (as it did for me), don’t worry. It has six different speed settings, so you can choose the one that’s right for you. The Velvet Thruster’s 3.2″ of thrust might not be enough for folks who prefer very deep penetration, but for me it was just about perfect as I find anything too deep to be painful. I don’t want to be prodded in the cervix, thanks.

I like the Velvet Thruster’s semi-firm silicone for similar reasons. It’s rigid enough to get a satisfying “fucking” sensation, but not so rigid that it’s uncomfortable in use. The Frankie attachment is pleasingly flexible in its top 3″, allowing for easier positioning and targeting of the spots that work for you.

The included suction cup adds lots of different interesting possibilities. You can mount your Velvet Thruster to all kinds of surfaces (walls, floors, windows… hey, I’m not judging!) and enjoy it hands-free. And the suction cup is seriously strong, so you don’t need to worry about the toy coming unstuck in use.

The Velvet Thruster’s battery life is also frankly incredible, giving you around 8 hours of use on a single full charge. In a world where most rechargeable sex toys offer 1-2 hours, maybe 3 hours if you’re really lucky, 8 is absolutely amazing.

Anything I Didn’t Like?

By far the biggest downside of the Velvet Thruster sex machine is that it’s large and heavy. This can make it tricky to use by yourself, particularly if positioning or holding heavy toys is difficult for you. I suspect the long-reach handle accessory would make solo use much easier. I’m seriously considering investing in one for this reason.

The controls are also slightly annoying. The machine has bidirectional speed controls, which is a big positive. But for some reason you have to press the main on/off button twice to actually switch the toy off. The first press reduces the speed down to the lowest setting, but doesn’t switch it off. This could be problematic if you need to stop quickly, especially because the main on/off button is actually quite fiddly and difficult to press.

The only other thing I don’t like is the noise, which is a sort of high-pitched repetitive whine. To be fair to Velvet, though, I’ve never encountered a thrusting toy that didn’t make basically this same noise. I think it might just be an unfortunate but unavoidable downside of the genre.

Verdict: Worth the Money?

Like any sex machine, the Velvet Thruster is expensive. Prices range from $246-$300 (or £204-£245 on the UK site) for a preconfigured machine, depending on which head you choose. Additional attachments range from £38-£61. You can also customise your toy with various accessories and upgrades, such as handles, if you like.

So is the Velvet Thruster sex machine worth it? I’m going to say yes, overall, it’s an excellent product that is fairly and competitively priced for what it is. I know I’ll get plenty of use out of mine!

You can buy Velvet Thruster products from Velvet Brands.
