[Toy Review] We-Vibe Wand 2

I was surprised, looking back, to see that I never published a We-Vibe Wand review on here when the first iteration of this toy launched back in 2020. I was sure I had, but apparently not. Anyway, I received the new edition – the Wand 2 – this week, so you’re getting a We-Vibe Wand review at last!

We-Vibe Wand 2: Details

We-Vive Wand 2 vibrator in its box

The We-Vibe Wand 2 is a cordless wand vibrator. It measures around 11″ in total length, with a 2.1″ diameter head at its widest point. It is made of soft and body-safe purple silicone, with a curved handle, large head, and flexible neck. The Wand is controllable either manually or through the We-Vibe app. Additional features include a travel lock and WOW Tech’s[1] Smart Silence functionality – more on that in a minute.

The Wand 2 is USB rechargeable, giving around 2 hours of runtime for a 2.5 hour full charge. It is also IPX7 waterproof, meaning you can use it safely in the bath or shower.

What I Liked About the We-Vibe Wand 2

At risk of spoiler-ing myself before I get to the overall verdict, let’s begin by acknowledging that the We-Vibe Wand 2 is a genuinely fucking excellent vibrator. I’m not usually particularly brand-loyal when it comes to sex toys, but I do make an exception for my wands (#Doxy4Life!) It takes a lot for another wand to make it into my easy-access sex chest. But this one has managed it.

What makes it so great?

  • Intense, deep, powerful, and rumbly as fuck vibrations. This is one of the rumbliest vibrators I have ever used. Even better, it keeps that rumbliness even on the highest settings. I can’t sing the praises of this toy’s vibrations enough. Whatever motor We-Vibe are using, they have set a new gold standard for cordless toys with this one.
  • The shape of the head is fantastic. With the broad, rounded sides and pronounced “pleasure edges”, you can switch easily between broad and focused stimulation.
  • The flexible neck enables easy and comfortable positioning.
  • The manual controls are simple and comprehensive. You can scroll in either direction through the 10 vibration patterns and 10 intensity levels, setting exactly the combination you prefer and moving between them easily.
  • If you have the original We-Vibe Wand, the two attachments that came with it will also fit on the Wand 2. Other brands’ wand attachments may also work. For example, though the fit isn’t quite perfect, I’ve found that I can easily use my Godemiche Wand Toppers with the Wand 2.
We-Vibe Wand 2 with wand attachments
Feat. wand attachments from We-Vibe Wand original

  • Connecting to the We-Vibe app (formerly WeConnect) is quick and straightforward. If it’s been a while since you downloaded the We-Vibe app, you might need to update it or download the newest version for it to pick up the Wand 2, but that’s also fast and free.
  • The app offers various possibilities, such as controlling the toy from your phone, switching between your favourite settings instantly, or creating “playlists” of various settings in a particular order. You can also use Ambient Mode to vibe along to ambient noise (in my experience it has to be pretty loud for this to really work) or Beat Mode to connect your toy to music stored on your device (not compatible with music from streaming apps.) And, of course, you can hand over control to a partner from anywhere in the world as long as they have an internet connection.
  • The app’s responsiveness is reliable and instant.
  • The app is a nice-to-have rather an an essential. As someone who rarely uses sex toy apps in real-world contexts outside of reviewing, I much prefer the toys to speak for themselves and the apps to be optional extras. This toy achieves that aim.
  • The Smart Silence function is one of my favourite ever WOW Tech inventions. This means that the toy is equipped with a sensor and will start vibrating when it is in contact with your body, then stop automatically when you take it away. This is ideal for people who require discretion, and also for people who prefer a seamless stop-and-start experience. Smart Silence is on by default, but you can also switch it off if you find you don’t like it.
  • Though not exactly “whisper quiet” (stop claiming this, toy companies, it’s almost never true!), the We-Vibe Wand 2’s sound level is reasonably unobtrusive particularly for its level of power.
  • Great value. To be clear, the We-Vibe Wand 2 isn’t a cheap toy. But for what you get, the price of £129.99 in the UK/$149 in the US is very reasonable.

Anything I Didn’t Like?

Because no product is perfect, the We-Vibe Wand 2 does have some minor downsides too.

  • Unlike the original We-Vibe Wand, the Wand 2 does not come with any attachments included. This wasn’t really an issue for me personally because, as mentioned above, it will work with the attachments I still have from my original Wand as well as other attachments in my collection. However, that won’t be true for people who didn’t own the We-Vibe Wand original or who don’t already have a collection of attachments.
  • The app’s “Touch Mode”, as I’ve identified in previous reviews, is pretty useless. The vibrations will turn on in response to touches, but whatever I do I cannot get the intensity to change.
  • It’s pretty heavy.
  • A lot of the vibrations transfer through the handle, particularly on the higher settings. This can be a problem for people who suffer with hand pain or discomfort.

We-Vibe Wand Review: Verdict

This is an absolutely amazing toy.

With the exception of the lack of attachments, this iteration is an improvement in virtually every way on the original We-Vibe Wand. It has better app connectivity and responsiveness, more comprehensive manual controls, and a better head design. Most importantly, it has one of the best – if not the best – motors I’ve ever encountered in a cordless toy.

You can purchase the We-Vibe Wand 2 from Lovehoney UK for £129.99 or Lovehoney US for $149. It is also available directly from We-Vibe North America and We-Vibe Europe.

Lovehoney Advent Calendar 2024 Day #9: We-Vibe Sync Lite

This is the third time I’ve reviewed one of Lovehoney’s sexy advent calendars (check out the entire series and past iterations here!) The Lovehoney x Womanizer 24 Day Couples’ Advent Calendar retails for £149 at Lovehoney UK and $199 at Lovehoney US, and contains £457/$530 worth of products! For the first time, it contains not one but two premium products, the first of which is the We-Vibe Sync Lite.

Let’s dive into Day 9.

Lovehoney Advent Calendar 2024 Day #9: We-Vibe Sync Lite

Lovehoney Advent Calendar Day 9 box

The We-Vibe Sync Light is a wearable vibrator designed to be inserted into the vagina during penetrative sex, with an external arm that provides clitoral stimulation. Of course, as always, there are lots of different ways to use toys and the suggested way is just one of them!

We-Vibe Sync Lite

Product Info

  • Material: Silicone
  • Colour: Black
  • Body safe? Yes
  • Waterproof: No – toy is IPX-4 splashproof but should not be submerged
  • Size: 3″ insertable length
  • Speeds/patterns: 4 speeds and 6 patterns
  • Lube-compatible: Water-based lube is best
  • Cleaning: A body-safe sterile wipe is best for non-submersible toys
  • RRP if bought as a single item: £79.99
We-Vibe Sync Lite

Pros

  • Middling power vibrations – they’re not knock-your-socks-off, but they’re decent
  • Flexible middle between the two arms allows you to position the toy in whatever way is most comfortable for your body
  • App controls! I did not expect to find an app-controlled toy in this kit but I am very pleasantly surprised. We-Vibe’s app is free from the Android or iOS stores and allows you to connect at close range or remotely from anywhere in the world.
We-Vibe Sync Lite

Cons

  • No remote control, which is a downside if you don’t want to use the app
  • Single button interface on the body of the toy is kind of annoying
  • Not waterproof
  • In my experience, these toys don’t generally stay in place well during partnered sex without someone holding them in position

Verdict

This is a really impressive addition to the kit! These types of toys are normally seriously pricey, so this is a great introduction for those who are curious about trying one. The app controls are also a really nice extra, particularly for couples who want to connect sexually over long distance.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Sync O

Wearable vibrators are eternally popular, and every time I think I’ve seen every possible iteration on this theme something new comes along. With the promise of a toy you can use hands-free, a toy that can provide clitoral stimulation (which most people with vulvas need to orgasm) during penetrative sex, or a toy you can use in places where it would normally not be okay to use a sex toy, the allure of these types of products is obvious.

This time it’s the Sync O from the original wearable toy pioneers, We-Vibe. But how did it perform?

We-Vibe Sync O: Details

We-Vibe Sync O with its remote control

The We-Vibe Sync O is a remote-controlled and app-controlled vibrator designed primarily to be worn during penetrative sex to provide extra clitoral stimulation. It is a U-shaped toy with a bendable hinge, allowing you to position it in the way that works for your body.

There’s a loop-shaped internal arm designed to hold it in place securely inside your body, and an external portion that rests against the vulva and clit. Design-wise, the We-Vibe Sync O is clearly a successor to other popular We-Vibe products such as the Sync and Chorus.

The insertable portion measures 3″ in length, and the clitoral arm measures about 4″.

The Sync O is made of body-safe silicone and available in two colours: green or purple. It is fully waterproof and submersible for use in the bath or shower, and USB rechargeable. You’ll get up to 150 minutes runtime from a full charge depending on which settings you’re using. You also get a little storage bag, but for some reason this isn’t really big enough to fit the toy, the remote, and the charging cable so it’s a bit pointless.

Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of the We-Vibe Sync O.

We-Vibe Sync O In Use: What I Liked

We-Vibe Sync O

  • The Sync O’s vibrations are reasonably strong and rumbly
  • The hinged design makes it easy to position the vibrator comfortably
  • The remote control’s responsiveness is excellent and somewhat makes up for the annoying one-button interface (see below)
  • The product page says that the We-Vibe Sync O’s internal arm is designed to keep the toy securely in place. This is likely because the flexible silicone loop pushes outwards against the vaginal walls when you’re wearing it. I did find that it was less likely to fall out than other wearable toys I’ve tried (though the trade-off was some considerable discomfort – see below.)
  • The texturing on the underside of the clitoral arm adds an extra bit of friction and additional stimulation
  • The silicone is soft, smooth, and easy to clean
  • The Sync O is pretty quiet in use

We-Vibe Sync O In Use: What I Didn’t Like

We-Vibe Sync O

  • Companies always sell these toys as “hands free” but in my experience they rarely actually are. As with the Chorus, I found I needed to use my hand to hold the We-Vibe Sync O in place during use. Otherwise, it just slipped out of position and away from my clit, leading to an experience far more frustrating than pleasurable.
  • The single button interface on the toy itself limits your options if you don’t want to use the remote or the app.
  • I found the insertable loop really uncomfortable, bordering on painful, to wear. The sensation of having my vaginal walls pushed outwards was a bit like having a speculum inserted at the gyno (in other words, the least sexy thing imaginable.) Getting a penis or dildo inside me alongside it? No chance. This is a pretty major issue considering it’s the main selling point of the toy and renders it virtually unusable for me.

The We-Vibe App

The We-Vibe app is free to download on Android or iOS. Connecting your toy via Bluetooth is easy, with clear instructions, and takes less than 30 seconds. From there, you can select “Play” and make use of all the app’s functionalities including:

  • Single Vibe, which allows you to adjust the toy’s speed on a constant vibration setting
  • Multi vibe, which allows you to use up to four different settings and switch between them quickly
  • Touch mode, which was annoyingly useless (it’s supposed to change the vibrations based on your finger movements on the screen, but actually did the same lacklustre juddering vibration no matter where and how I pressed)
  • Beat, which syncs your toy to music.
  • Playlist, in which you can create your own personalised collection of settings in a specified order
  • Ambient, in which the toy responds and vibes along to ambient noise around you (this could be useful if you’re in a loud environment such as a club and enjoy discreetly playing in public)

The app’s responsiveness is generally good, and I found connectivity to be reliable. In practice I don’t really use apps to control toys that much – somehow, pulling out my phone mid-sex feels like it ruins the moment! The app offers some intriguing possibilities, but I don’t see myself actually using it very often.

I did not have the opportunity to test the app’s long-distance functionality as I no longer have a long-distance partner to try it with. However, I will say that my experience with the We-Vibe app’s distance features have been… a mix. With the Chorus, it worked beautifully. With the Rave 2, it didn’t work at all. I suspect this is due to app version upgrades rather than specific toys, though, as it’s the same basic tech in all of them.

Verdict

Though I was impressed by the We-Vibe Sync O’s motor and bendable design, it’s let down hugely by the fact that I can’t actually wear it for any significant period of time as the insertable part just causes me pain. Of course, all bodies are different. You might not have any issue with wearing this toy at all – and the many rave reviews indicate that it works well for a lot of people!

This is really a “know your body” situation. If your vagina is more accommodating than mine and you’re looking for a wearable toy (whether for penetrative sex, low-effort masturbation, or discreet play outside the house), it could be a great choice for you.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Rave 2

If you’re a regular reader of my toy reviews, you’ll know that I am not always the biggest fan of internal vibrators. In general, vibrations against my G-spot just don’t feel that good to me. Sometimes they can even be uncomfortable.

This means that, when I am asked to review G-spot vibrators, I often end up using them in ways beyond their intended purpose. The We-Vibe Rave 2, which landed on my desk this week (my job is weird, y’all) is no exception to this rule.

We-Vibe Rave 2 G-spot vibrator

So how did I get along with this new toy from a company that has created so many enduring faves over the years?

We-Vibe Rave 2

The We-Vibe Rave 2 is a new iteration of We-Vibe’s Rave G-spot vibrator. It’s an app-controlled G-spot toy that measures 8.5″ in length (5″ insertable) and 1.5″ in diameter. Made of body-safe silicone, it is available in either hot pink or dusky blue.

We-Vibe Rave 2 app controlled vibrator

There are several upgrades to this edition of the We-Vibe Rave from the original, including:

  • It now has two motors instead of one
  • It has a hinge in the centre of the shaft
  • The shaft has been slightly redesigned

The Rave 2 is rechargeable, with 2 hours of charging giving around 2 hours of runtime. A storage pouch is also included.

What I Like About the We-Vibe Rave 2

Having been big players in the app-controlled toys space for a long time, We-Vibe typically produce reliable and good quality products. As such, there are a lot of things to like about the We-Vibe Rave 2.

  • The twisted shaft design and pronounced curve is excellent for targeted and precision G-spot stimulation.
  • The hinge! Oh my god the hinge. It’s an absolutely brilliant addition and I love how much it can alter the feel of the toy as well as how easy it is to hold and manipulate.
We-Vibe Rave 2 app-controlled G spot vibrator

  • The app functionality for solo/close-range play (we’ll dive into the app in more detail below.)
  • The second motor which offers stimulation of the sensitive area around the vaginal entrance.
  • The ability to control the two motors independently.
  • The vibrations are strong, rumbly… but also quiet.

What I DON’T Like About the We-Vibe Rave 2

Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room: this product’s bizarre marketing claims. On the We-Vibe website, the company claims that the Rave 2 offers “dual stimulation target[ing] both G-spot & clitoris.” There is no universe in which that’s true, sorry. Even with the hinge bent as far as it will go, there is no way this toy is reaching both the clit and the G-spot at the same time on the vast majority of bodies.

It also claims that it can be “worn during sex,” which… maybe sort of, I suppose, depending on what kind of sex we’re talking about. However, that terminology in the sex toy industry mostly refers to toys that can be worn during penis-in-vagina intercourse. This toy is definitely not that. It’s also just not something I would ever consider to be a “wearable” toy in any meaningful way.

Seriously, did We-Vibe just copy the wording from another of their products wholesale and not edit it at all? Because that’s how it looks.

Okay, so what else didn’t I like?

  • I would have preferred the insertable part to be a little more flexy and less rigid.
  • The manual controls are really fiddly and annoying. It can be hard to tell which motors you’re turning on and off and the responsiveness to speed changes isn’t always reliable.
  • A lot of the vibration patterns are quite samey so though there are nominally 10 patterns, it’s really more like five or six.
  • “Touch mode” on the app does not work at all. No matter how I move my finger, the toy responds exactly the same.
  • The long-distance app functionality made me want to scream. This deserves an entire section to itself, so we’ll get into that below.
We-Vibe Rave 2 G-spot vibrator buttons

Okay, Let’s Talk About the App

The reason most people will buy a toy like the We-Vibe Rave 2 is because it’s app-controllable. App-controlled vibrators have taken off enormously and are great for people in long-distance relationships, those who enjoy discreet public play as well as cam performers.

Solo Mode

The We-Vibe app seems to be slightly different every time I use it, with new additions and improvements. Overall, I really liked this latest iteration when I was using the toy in solo mode. You have a few options including:

  • “Single Vibe”, which allows you to adjust the speed of the two motors (separately or together) on a single pattern.
  • “Multi vibe”, which allows you to use a different pattern for each motor simultaneously and switch between patterns quickly.
  • “Touch mode”, which is supposed to change the vibrations based on your finger movements on the screen but actually does absolutely nothing.
  • “Beat”, which syncs your toy to music.
  • “Playlist”, in which you can create your own personalised collection of settings in a particular order.
  • “Ambient”, in which the toy responds to ambient noise around you.

The connectivity was fast and the responsiveness was good. So far so promising.

Long-Distance Mode

But then I tried to use the long-distance feature to hand control of the toy over to my girlfriend, and that’s when my experience with this toy really started to go sideways.

Bearing in mind that the long-distance capabilities are one of We-Vibe’s main selling points for many of their toys: it simply does not work at all. We spent the best part of an hour trying to get the damn thing to connect and got nowhere.

No matter what we did – up to and including deleting and reinstalling the app – we could not get it to connect. We were met with either blank screens or notifications that the other was “offline” when we were very definitely online.

Having read lots of reviews this seems to be a common issue with this iteration of the We-Vibe app. I do expect some occasional issues with app-controlled toys as the technology is still relatively new and the kinks are being ironed out, so to speak. But there’s really no excuse for it to be this useless, particularly when it’s marketed so heavily as a benefit of these toys.

So instead of a hot remote sex date, we ended up spending a frustrating hour battling with technology. In the words of my girlfriend when we finally gave up: “I’m just horny and angry now!”

Verdict: Do I Recommend It?

The We-Vibe Rave 2 itself is fine as a toy, though not spectacular. It offers great power and good app functionality in solo play mode, as well as some excellent design features. But its manual controls are a massive pain, it makes some outlandishly inaccurate marketing claims… and the feature that is arguably its most important selling point doesn’t fucking work.

Therefore I cannot currently recommend this toy if you want to use it remotely. If you want to use it with the app at close range or just as a regular G-spot vibrator then sure, it’s fine, though I think you can probably get an equally serviceable G-spot vibrator at a lower price if you don’t need all the additional fancy features.

The We-Vibe Rave 2 retails for £129.99 ($139.00) and is available from Lovehoney UK, Lovehoney US, We-Vibe Europe and We-Vibe North America.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Ditto+ App Controlled Butt Plug

We-Vibe has been one of the biggest players in the app-controlled sex toys space for a long time now, and for good reason. From their early days of pioneering wearable clitoral vibrators to the extensive product range they have today, We-Vibe has consistently produced quality toys that live up to their high price tag.

I recently received the We-Vibe Ditto+ from Lovehoney. I’ll be candid and say I don’t use anal toys all that often and when I do, I tend to be very choosy. So let’s see how this one measured up.

We-Vibe Ditto+ Details

We-Vibe Ditto+ vibrating butt plug

The We-Vibe Ditto+ is a vibrating butt plug measuring 3.5″ in total length, 3″ in insertable length, and a petite 1.2″ in diameter at the widest point. It is rechargeable via the included USB cable, with a single charge giving you around 120 minutes of runtime. It’s also fully waterproof and submersible, and comes with a cotton storage bag.

The We-Vibe Ditto+ is made of lovely, body-safe matte silicone and is available in two colourways: pink or black. I received the pink, which has a gorgeous subtle shimmer when it catches the light. I don’t love that it has a visible seam all the way around and little spot marks, presumably from the molding process. They’re small aesthetic details but when you’re paying over £100 for a toy, those things do matter.

How Does It Feel? Insertion and Comfort

I appreciate the We-Vibe Ditto+’s small size. On the relatively rare occasions that I use anal toys, I tend to opt for smaller ones. Large anal insertables just aren’t really my thing. That said, if you prefer a larger toy, this one probably isn’t for you.

We-Vibe Ditto+ vibrating anal plug

Like all anal toys, the Ditto+ is suitable for folks of all genders and genital configurations. However, it’s not large enough to reach the prostate on most people who have one, so look elsewhere if you’re looking for a prostate stimulator. (Might I recommend the Aneros range?)

If you have a vagina, the shape of the Ditto+ is ideal for wearing during penetrative sex. Just remember to angle the flat side of the Ditto+ towards the front of your body for comfort. Your partner will feel the vibrations when they’re inside you. Vaginal/anal double penetration isn’t really my jam but, if I was going to do it, the Ditto+ is an ideal plug for the purpose.

I really like the base design of the Ditto+, too. As you may know, it’s vital for anal toys to have a flared base. This is because, without one, there’s a risk of them getting sucked up into your butt and getting stuck. (Cue an embarrassing trip to A&E or, at worst, a real medical emergency.)

We-Vibe Ditto+ app controlled butt plug base and buttons

However, many anal toys have rounded bases that can be super uncomfortable to wear after a while. The Ditto+’s L-shaped base sits flush with the curve of the butt cheeks comfortably and without digging in.

Don’t forget that adequate lubrication is absolutely essential for safe and pleasurable anal play.

How Does It Feel? Vibrations, Controls, and Sound

The We-Vibe Ditto+ has ten vibration modes: 4 steady speeds and 6 patterns. The toy itself has only a one-button interface, but the remote control makes it easy to switch between settings and to turn the intensity up or down.

The button on the base of the toy is a little too firm and difficult to press. However, you’re unlikely to use it all that much. Once the toy is inside you, it’s just too awkwardly placed and you’re much better off using the remote control. The remote has a simple interface, easy to press buttons, and great responsiveness. Be aware that the remote isn’t waterproof, though.

Like most We-Vibe toys, this one has an excellent motor. It’s strong and rumbly, and ideally situated within the toy to transmit the most vibrations to the right spots. When I use vibrating clitoral vibrators, I tend to turn them straight to the highest setting and leave them there. It’s different with butt toys, though, where I tend to prefer slightly gentler stimulation. The top setting on the Ditto+ is actually a bit too much for me! Butts are sensitive and easily overstimulated, as it turns out. (At least mine is.)

Sometimes it feels as though every sex toy ever to exist claims to be “whisper quiet.” This is usually laughably and demonstrably untrue (with the companies that proclaim it the most often producing the most obnoxiously loud, rattly, whiny toys!) However, We-Vibe toys are consistently impressively quiet, especially when you balance their level of power against their level of volume.

The Ditto+ is no exception. Even at the highest setting its noise is no more than a quiet buzz. It’s totally discreet for use anywhere with a reasonable level of ambient noise. (So if going out with a plug in is your thing, have at it!)

App Functionality

The brand new We-Vibe app has been totally redesigned and rebuilt from scratch. It’s free to download from the Android or iOS app stores. You don’t even need to create an account to start playing, so you can dive in straight away.

The app walks you through connecting your toy, which is done through Bluetooth and takes about 20 seconds. You can then select “Play” to control your toy from close range, or “Long Distance Play” to connect with a partner anywhere in the world.

The “Single Vibe” mode allows you to select a setting and then change the intensity with the swipe of a finger. The “Multi Vibe” mode is particularly cool and allows you to select four different modes, which appear in the four quadrants of your screen. You can then change mode and adjust the intensity with the swipe of a finger.

You can also create a playlist or use “Beat Mode” to vibe along to music, or select “Ambient Mode” to have your toy respond to the ambient noise of your surroundings. (This could be fun in a loud environment such as a club or party.)

Overall, an impressive array of options that make for a surprisingly versatile toy!

The one option I found completely useless was the “Touch Mode.” Supposedly this allows you to translate touches of the screen into a vibration pattern but no matter how (or how fast or slow) I moved my finger across the screen, the intensity and pattern of the vibrations was the same. It’s a cool idea but utterly non-functional in its current form.

The We-Vibe’s app connectivity is steady, reliable, and highly responsive as long as you’ve got a decent internet connection. We-Vibe has typically been ahead of the curve in this area generally, but the new and improved app really is a step up.

The We-Vibe app does not allow screenshots due to its security policy. This was super annoying for the purposes of completing this review, but does make sense from a safety perspective!

Verdict

The We-Vibe Ditto+ retails for £109.99 in the UK and $129 in the US. If you just want a basic vibrating silicone plug, you can get something much cheaper and enjoy much the same effect (though, admittedly, the vibrations won’t be as strong or rumbly.) But if you’re going to make the most of the extensive app functionality, the We-Vibe Ditto+ is a good investment.

Good design, great vibrations, actually useable app. Excellent all around.

Thanks to Lovehoney for sending me this product to review. All views and experiences are, of course. mine. Affiliate links appear in this post.

What are the Best Vibrators for Long Distance Play?

I’m not in a serious long distance relationship at the moment (though I do have a lovely long distance play partner). But until a few months ago, I had a partner who lived in a different city. We saw each other about once a month, and kept in touch using various methods in between. We texted, sexted, had virtual dates, and – yes – occasionally played with remote vibrators.

Sales of high-tech, remote-capable sex toys boomed in the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic. Whether you’re temporarily separated by travel restrictions, one of you is travelling for work, or you currently (or permanently) live apart, you can enjoy sex from anywhere in the world with the right remote sex toy.

This is just one of the use-cases for the large, and growing, market for sex toys that can be controlled over long distances. If you enjoy the thrill of wearing a sex toy out and about and handing control to your partner, a long-distance vibrator can also be a good investment. They tend to be much more reliable than the ones with short-range handheld remotes.

Another popular use-case for long-distance vibrators is for those who do online camming. Say you’ve set up your custom Chaturbate profile and built a loyal following, what’s next? Many performers find that using a remote vibe, and allowing fans to take control of it in exchange for tips, is a fun way to boost their earnings. Lovense toys are specifically designed with this functionality in mind.

But what are the best vibrators for long distance couples, cam models, and anyone else who needs a toy with remote control capability? Turns out that’s not a simple question to answer. Here are a few things you might want to consider to help you choose the best long-distance sex toy for YOU.

What’s Your Budget?

App-controlled and long distance sex toys are becoming more accessible, price-wise, as more and more companies are making them. You might say that sex tech has gone mainstream! Even so, there are products available at a wide range of price points. Lower priced products in this category tend to start at around the $80 mark, but you can easily spend hundreds of dollars for high-end products from some brands.

Before you start shopping, decide on your budget. You might need to compromise on some features, depending on how much you want to spend. Which brings us to…

Which Features Matter Most to You?

You should also consider which features you want your toys to have and what matters the most to you. For some people, the most important feature will be the toy’s level of power. Though there are exceptions, many people who use sex toys tend to prefer strong, rumbly vibrations over weaker, buzzier ones.

App reliability is another big factor to consider. You don’t want the connection to keep dropping in the middle of your hot virtual sex date! And if you’re into the idea of semi-public play (or live with family/roommates), the volume of the toy might also be important to you.

When it comes to power, volume, and app connectivity, the best thing you can do is read honest reviews like the ones you’ll find here and on other sex blogs. Good sex toy bloggers test things robustly and call it as we see it when we give our verdict on a product.

Some app-controlled sex toys are more feature-rich than others. At the most basic level, app control will allow your partner to switch the toy on and off and scroll through a pre-set range of speeds and patterns. More advanced products have all kinds of fancy bonus features. For example, some toys allow you to draw your own vibration patterns, sync the vibrations to music, or even use your wearable toy as an alarm.

The Lovense Connect app
App: Lovense Connect

If you’re non-monogamous or do (for example) camming or phone sex, the option to give control to different people at the touch of a button might be important to you. Some toys only let you add one partner to their apps at a time. This means that you have to delete and re-add every time you’re playing with a different person.

The Most Powerful App-Controlled Toys

Two of the biggest players in app-controlled sex toys right now are Lovense and We-Vibe. These products are popular for a reason – they are, in the main, high quality, reliable, and powerful vibes. But they are far from the only options on the market. Other options include Lovehoney’s Desire range as well as products from brands like Kiiroo, Svakom, and Lelo. I strongly suspect that over the next few years, most of the major sex toy brands will start bringing out app-controlled toys, if they haven’t already.

From a personal perspective, I have found We-Vibe’s products to be the most consistently powerful app-controlled toys I’ve tried. Lovense products are also generally pretty powerful. Interestingly, however, I found their most iconic and popular product (the Lush) rather lacklustre in the power department.

Consider Privacy

I am far from a digital privacy expert. I do know that some people with far more knowledge than me have expressed legitimate concerns over the privacy aspect of app-connected sex toys. Ultimately, you must do your own research and decide your level of acceptable risk. If you’re concerned, read the privacy policy of the company you’re considering buying from. You can also check out reviews from sex tech experts to see what they have to say about the privacy aspect.

A Few Specific Recommendations

As you can see, it’s not easy to give a blanket answer to the question “what are the best vibrators for long-distance sex?” Ultimately, what’s best for you will depend on your personal preferences and the various factors I’ve discussed in this piece.

But from a personal perspective, here are a few of the app-controlled sex toys that I like the most:

  • Lovense Ferri, a fabulously powerful-yet-discreet knicker vibe.
  • Lovense Domi, a genuinely brilliant wand. You don’t see app-controlled wand vibrators very often, which makes this one even more appealing.
  • We-Vibe Nova 2, an app-controlled rabbit vibe with a fantastic clit-friendly design.
  • We-Vibe Chorus, designed for clitoral stimulation during penetrative sex but also ideal for hands-free long-distance play.
  • Hot Octopuss x Kiiroo Pulse Solo, a high-tech update to the innovative masturbator inspired by medical technology.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Touch X

Earlier this week, I reviewed the Tango X from We-Vibe’s new and updated range. Today, in much the same theme, we’re discussing the We-Vibe Touch X.

However, my perspective on this is slightly different. I’ve never tried or owned the original We-Vibe Touch, so this is a stand-alone review rather than a point of comparison. So just know that going in.

We-Vibe Touch X

The We-Vibe Touch X is a petite, palm-sized clitoral vibrator with a concave side and a tapered tip.

We-Vibe Touch X clitoral vibrator

It measures 4″ in total length and is made of 100% body-safe, smooth silicone. Mine is pink (well, it’s really more pinkish orange) and it is also available in a dark sea-green.

The Touch X is fully waterproof and USB rechargeable. It comes with a small white silky storage bag.

User Interface

The We-Vibe Touch X features 8 levels of intensity and 7 patterns. The simple user interface is identical to that of the Tango X: two buttons to change the intensity up and down, and a central button to switch between patterns.

Vibrator buttons on the We-Vibe Touch X powerful external vibrator

The buttons are intuitively placed and relatively easy to press. However, they’re a bit fiddly due to their small size. I would have liked them to be a little bigger.

The Touch X also features a cool press-and-hold button functionality, so you can just hold the up or down button until you get the exact level of intensity you’re after.

Power and Experience

I think the new generation Touch has the same motor as the new Tango X. However, I found that the silicone dampened the vibrations to such an extent that they felt far weaker and more buzzy.

Side view of We-Vibe Touch X new generation clit vibe

Though I can get off with the Touch X, I found it a pretty frustrating experience. As a big lover of We-Vibe products, I kept thinking that this couldn’t be as high as the power goes… but it was.

I do like the tapered shape, but the vibrations themselves were disappointing. I can comfortably say this is by far the most underwhelming We-Vibe product I’ve tried, and I doubt I’ll be reaching for it again.

Verdict

Perhaps it’s because I tried the Tango X first (and ohhhmyyygoddd) but I found the Touch X… just okay.

It’s well-designed and I like the shape. I certainly have no serious complaints. The motor is decent, like all We-Vibe toys. However, I think the silicone just dampened the vibrations a little too much for me. The result was all buzz and not intense enough. I don’t get the deep, satisfying rumble from the Touch X that both Tango models provide.

If you like a still-respectable-but-slightly-gentler vibration, get the Touch. If you need pinpoint stimulation or intense, rumbly power, the Tango X will be your new best friend.

The Touch X retails for £89.99/$99.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Tango X

One of the world’s most powerful bullet vibrators – not to mention the most popular – has had a makeover! It’s well known that I have long been a big fan of the Tango, We-Vibe’s tiny, unassuming, knock-your-socks-off bullet. So I obviously jumped at the chance to review the brand new We-Vibe Tango X, which was released recently.

We-Vibe Tango X: What’s Changed?

There are a few notable differences between the Tango X and the original We-Vibe Tango. The X is slightly larger, measuring just under 10cm in from base to tip (the original is around 8.5cm.)

We-Vibe Tango X and Tango Original comparison

The new Tango X retains the signature lipstick-style tapered tip of the original, but features a silicone grip around the base. This makes it more comfortable to hold and means that your hand gets vibrated slightly less in use.

The Tango X has had a motor upgrade, taking this already super-powerful bullet vibe up to the next level. Its battery life has had a boost, too – you’ll now get around 2 hours playtime out of a 90 minute charge.

Finally – and this is a big deal – the controls have been upgraded. Instead of the original Tango’s one-button interface in the base of the toy, the Tango X features three buttons, allowing you to cycle between patterns and change speeds up and down with ease. The power buttons also feature a press-and-hold function, allowing you to choose exactly what level of power you want simply by holding the button down.

The Tango X features 7 patterns and 8 intensity levels. It is waterproof, USB rechargeable, and features a travel lock. In the box, you’ll also find the charging cable, a sachet of We-Vibe water-based lube, and a white silky storage bag. My Tango X is navy blue, but it also comes in pink.

In Use

The tiny but mighty Tango has always been a great toy, and this new iteration continues that tradition. It is light (less than 40g!), the new handle makes it ergonomic and comfortable to hold, and small enough to pop in your bag or pocket. The dream travel toy when you need to economise on space!

And those vibrations… good lord.

This new edition Tango delivers in that department and then some. The vibrations are powerful as fuck. Not only that, they’re also rumbly as fuck. There’s no surface-level, numbing buzz here – it’s all powerful, intense rumbles. Think of it as a deep tissue massage for your bits!

The Tango X is also surprisingly quiet, making it a great choice if discretion is a must for you. The new style buttons are a little smaller than I would ideally like, but intuitively located and easy enough to press.

Like the original Tango, the Tango X’s shape is dreamy. You can use the shaft for broader stimulation, or the tapered end for perfect, precision clit stim. It’s small enough to slide between bodies during penetrative sex, if that’s your thing.

We-Vibe Tango X bullet vibrator

Honestly, I’m a simple creature when it comes to my sex toys. I want intense, rumbly power that is easy to use and gets me off. In that respect, the Tango X delivers and then some.

Verdict

An upgrade in every way! I often roll my eyes when toy companies release “new and improved” versions, adding features that no-one asked for and upping the price. But the X is legitimately an improvement on an already great product.

It has everything you love about the original Tango, only with better controls, a more comfortable grip, and even more power.

Yes, yes, yes! An absolute winner.

The Tango X retails for £79.99/$79.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couples’ Vibrator

[Update: this toy has been discontinued.]

A co-produced toy by one of my favourite manufacturers and one of my favourite retailers? Sign me up! The We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couple’s Vibrator (woof, that’s a mouthful) recently landed on my doorstep to review as part of my Sex Ed September series.

I’m writing this post on Saturday 26 September 2020, which is Smutathon 2020 day! A group of sex writers around the world are writing for 12 hours to raise money for Endometriosis UK, a fantastic cause that’s very close to our hearts. To that end, if you purchase through my affiliate links today (not just this toy – any product) I’ll donate any commissions dated today to the charity.

And of course, we’d love you to donate and help us reach our £3000 target!

With that out of the way…

Let’s have a closer look at the We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couple’s Vibrator.

This toy is the latest in the line of We-Vibe’s signature U-shaped vibrators, designed to be worn during penis-in-vagina intercourse. The slimmer of the two “arms” anchors the toy inside the vagina, while the outer arm rests against the vulva and provides clitoral stimulation.

The We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couples Vibrator

This toy is rechargeable via a USB cable, giving about 90 minutes of playtime for a 2-hour charge. While the toy itself is completely waterproof, the remote is not. The WV x LH Couple’s Vibrator is 3.5 inches in total length, and the insertable section is 3 inches long.

What I liked

The We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couple’s Vibrator is made of body-safe matte silicone. This makes it phthalate-free, non-porous, and a breeze to clean.

This toy’s two arms are separated by a flexible hinge. This allows you to position it at whatever angle is most pleasurable for your body. Since no two bodies are the same, making it adjustable better enables users to get the perfect fit for them.

The slimline design of the internal arm will make it comfortable for the majority of wearers, and prevent it from being too obtrusive during penetrative play.

I often roll my eyes about “hands free” toys. But, to give this product credit where it’s due, it did stay in place reasonably well. I don’t think it can truly be described as “hands free” as it moves around with intense thrusting, but I found it much easier to keep in place than an entirely hand-held toy. For solo sex purposes, I can pretty much use it hands-free.

Finally, the remote control is well designed. It’s very light, easy and unobtrusive to hold, and the controls are intuitive. Two buttons allow you to scroll through pattern settings, the othes change the speed.

And what I didn’t like

I had high hopes for the We-Vibe x Lovehoney Remote Control Couple’s Vibrator. We-Vibe is known for producing toys with high-quality, powerful and rumbly motors.

Sadly, the reality just didn’t match up to expectations. I don’t know if We-Vibe decided to use a different type of motor for this collaborative production, but the power in this iteration of their classic design is woefully lacking.

The vibrations are buzzy, surface-level, middling strength at best, and ultimately unsatisfying. I was not able to reach orgasm with it and I doubt I will use it again.

Final thoughts

Honestly, I’m underwhelmed.

I really wanted this toy to be amazing, as a collaboration between two companies I love should be. While the design is great in some ways, I can’t easily forgive a sex toy that completely failed to get me off. While I understand that the We-Vibe name carries a premium price-tag, at £99.99 ($119.99 US), this toy is far too expensive for its quality level.

For that reason, I sadly can’t entirely endorse this product. If you can afford to spend a little more, get the Sync or Chorus instead. If you’re on a budget and looking for something that will fit between bodies during sex, you’ll be better off with a really good bullet vibe.

[Toy Review] We-Vibe Nova 2

Dual-stimulation sex toys are very, very hard to get right. Given all the beautiful variety of bodies and vulvas, it’s not surprising that most dual-stim toys leave a lot of users feeling disappointed. Add to that the ever-present shitty motors, weak vibrations, and annoyingly placed controls, and you can see why I rarely expect much from these products. So keep this context in mind as I tell you about the We-Vibe Nova 2 and why it blew me away.

A Nova-l Invention

The We-Vibe Nova 2 is an updated, upgraded version of the classic and much-loved Nova. It is a rabbit style dual-stimulation vibrator featuring an adjustable internal arm, a flexible external arm for clitoral stimulation, and two separate motors:

The We-Vibe Nova 2 rabbit vibrator

The Nova 2 is made from body-safe matte silicone in a vibrant dark pink colour (make it in other colours please!) I always recommend using lube, especially with insertable toys. Silicone toys pair best with water-based lubes (I’m currently really liking Sliquid Organics.)

The Nova 2 is also fully waterproof, rechargeable (giving about 2 hours’ play for a 90 minute charge,) and comes with a white silky storage bag included. It is 8.5 inches in total length, of which 5 are insertable. The insertable arm is 1.35 inches in diameter at the widest point, making it a fairly slimline toy.

So how is the We-Vibe Nova 2 different from other rabbit vibrators?

The beauty of the We-Vibe Nova 2 is in its adjustability. The insertable arm is on a hinge, allowing you to bend it to the angle that best fits your body. This is brilliant because everyone’s vagina is different. The exact location of the G-spot, the intensity of pressure we prefer, and the depth of penetration that is pleasurable is different for everyone. Just reposition it once and it’ll stay put until you move it again.

The clitoral stimulator is flexible and curved in a way that can best be described as resembling a finger doing a “come hither” motion. The advertising copy boasts that this design ensures “constant contact with your clitoris”. I am pleased to report that it really did work that way for me!

The We-Vibe Nova 2 rabbit vibrator

I can’t overstate how much of a game-changer this design for the external arm is. One of the biggest problems people report with rabbit vibrators is being unable to thrust with them or adjust the angle of the insertable arm without losing clitoral contact. This innovative product has finally cracked that problem.

So about those motors?

If there’s one thing I have come to expect from We-Vibe products, it’s decent motors. From the bullet that redefined bullet vibes to that brilliant wand, they have not disappointed yet.

In that respect, the Nova 2 lived up to expectations. Both motors pack a punch in the power department. The internal arm is buzzier than the external, but that suits me just fine – I don’t really like vibrations inside (or only very gentle ones) but strong, rumbly clit stimulation is where it’s at.

Controls and app functionality

Unlike some app-controlled toys I’ve tried, the Nova’s app function seems more like a nice add-on than an absolute necessity. The controls on the toy itself are adequate. Using the 5 buttons you can turn the speed up or down, switch through patterns (BOTH WAYS, praise the sex toy gods,) and control which arm is in use. You can use either motor separately or both together.

The buttons of the We-Vibe Nova 2 rabbit vibrator

What you can’t do using the buttons on the toy is change the speed of the two motors independently while they’re both switched on. They either have to be running on the same speed, or one has to be off. If you want to have more precise control, you do need to use the app.

The We-Connect app is free from the Android and iOS app stores and takes about two minutes to set up. You sync the app to the Nova via Bluetooth. Once you’re connected, you can also give the control to a partner – from anywhere in the world – via the app. The responsiveness lags a little at times, especially if one of you has an unstable internet connection, but is otherwise functional.

When the toy is paired, you’ll see a split screen depicting two wave patterns, one representing each motor. You can change the intensity of one or both with a swipe of your finger. In the next tab, you can play with different combinations of patterns and settings to find one that works for you… or even create your own!

Final thoughts

The We-Vibe Nova 2 is a rare find: a dual-stimulation toy that I feel confident recommending because it is likely to suit a wider range of bodies! The strong motors and unique posable design make the Nova 2 a winner in my eyes.

The Nova 2 retails for £119.99 full price, but is currently on an introductory special of £89.00 at Lovehoney. You can also find it at SheVibe.
