[Toy Review] Lovense Nora

Lovense Nora review update/disclaimer 2025: Lovense has come under fire for significant security breaches in the last few months, including allegedly exposing users’ email addresses in the supposedly-anonymous app. Though the company claims to have fixed the problem, this is part of a pattern of worrying privacy concerns when it comes to app-controlled sex toys in general. Do with this information what you choose, but it has made me extremely hesitant about using toy apps personally. I have updated my Lovense reviews to include this information to allow you to make an informed choice.

Lovense have long been one of the biggest players in the realm of app controlled sex toys, from the various iterations of the famous Lush to the excellent Ferri and Domi products. This week, they have kindly sent me the Lovense Nora to review. The Nora is one of Lovense’s two rabbit vibrators, along with the Osci.

What is the Lovense Nora?

The Lovense Nora is an app-controlled rabbit vibrator with a difference. Instead of the two vibrating motors you find in a typical rabbit vibe, it has a rotating internal arm and a vibrating external clitoral stimulator. It is made of body-safe silicone, with an ABS plastic handle and control panel.

The Nora measures 9.53″ in total length, and has an insertable length of 4.72″. The insertable arm has a diameter of around 1.5″ at the widest point. It is USB rechargeable and IPX6 water-resistant (this means it is able to withstand water jets, but you should not submerse it for any prolonged amount of time.)

As well as the toy, you’ll find the charging cable and a black storage bag in the box.

Let’s dive into the Lovense Nora review.

Lovense Nora Review: What I Liked

Like all Lovense products, the Nora is well made and thoughtfully designed. As such, it has a lot of things to recommend it:

The silicone is luxuriously soft and silky.
You can control the clitoral and G-spot stimulators independently. As someone who has a very variable relationship with penetration, this is huge. If I want to just insert the toy and then use the clitoral stimulator, I can. If I want more, I just turn on the rotations. Excellent.
Speaking of which, that rotating motion. It’s no secret to anyone who’s read my reviews for a while that internal vibrations are not pleasurable to me. They’re somewhere between “annoying”, “uncomfortable”, and “painful.” The Nora’s rotations, though, are more like the G-spot stimulation you can get from fingers and less like a vibrator.
The gently rippled shaft of the toy’s insertable portion offers texture without being too intense.
The flexibility of the clitoral stimulator makes it easy to get it in the right place for your unique body, regardless of anatomy. Too many rabbit vibrators are fixed in one position. This effectively means they’ll only work well for one type of vulva. The flexibility also means the clitoral stimulator keeps contact as you move the toy or move your body against it.
The vibrations are strong and, though I wouldn’t necessarily go as far as to describe them as truly rumbly, they’re also not too buzzy.
You don’t need to use the app to have a good experience with this toy. You can still access three constant vibration speeds and four patterns, as well as three rotation speeds, using the buttons on the toy itself.
The battery life is truly impressive, offering up to 4 hours of continuous use and 5 days of standby time from a single (~2 hour) charge.
It comes with a 1-year warranty, so you’re covered should anything go wrong

Anything I Didn’t Like?

There were also a few things about the Lovense Nora I wasn’t so fond of.

Every rotating or thrusting toy I’ve ever reviewed has this problem, and the Lovense Nora is no exception: it makes a truly horrible noise when the rotation is on. It’s a really distracting, high pitched whine that becomes almost painful to my neurodivergent brain after a while.
At the high price-point, this toy really should be at least IPX7 waterproof to allow for use in the bath.
The manual control buttons are tiny, as are the symbols on them. This makes it challenging to change settings without needing to pause and look at the buttons.
I wish the manual option had dual-directional controls. As it is, you can only scroll one way through the settings. This means that, if you want to go down a setting, you have to scroll all the way back through.
The colour. Sorry. It’s a really ugly shade of pink.

Lovense Nora & the Lovense App

I don’t really use sex toy apps very often, but this Lovense Nora review wouldn’t be complete without looking at the app.

The Lovense Remote app is available free on Android, Mac, and iOS. You can also connect directly to a Windows PC using a Lovense USB Bluetooth adapter. Though the app isn’t strictly necessary, it does offer many more levels of functionality and allows you to really make the most of your Lovense toy. You will need to create a free account to use the app.

Connecting a toy takes seconds, and my experience has consistently been that the Lovense app offers great responsiveness and stable connectivity. I’ve said it before and I will repeat it here: it’s at least twice as good as any other brand’s remote control app that I have tried.

Once you’re logged in, you have numerous options:

“Remote” controls your toy’s vibrations, rotations, or both with the swipe of a finger. You can use “Loop” to only have the toy run while your fingers are on the screen, “Float” to set speeds and leave them there, “Traditional” to use simple up/down sliders, and “Local sync” to connect to a partner’s toy when you’re in the same space.
“Music” syncs your toy with a playlist, and works with both locally stored music and various music apps.
“Long distance” allows you to connect with a partner from anywhere in the world. You can also hand over control of your toy to them, or sync their toy with yours. I don’t have a long distance partner right now, so I didn’t get to try this aspect for this Lovense Nora review, but in the past my experience with this function has been tremendously positive.
The “control link” function allows you to send anyone a link to control your toy for a limited amount of time. They won’t need to create an account to do so.
Under the “Discover” tab, you’ll find a whole array of other fun options. These range from “control roulette” (which pairs you anonymously with another user online) and “patterns” (which gives you access to patterns made by other users) through to interactive video content, games, and alarms (which pre-set your toy to start at a specific time.)

You can also sync your Nora with the Lovense Calor, Max 2, or another Nora. The toys will respond to one another’s movements over any distance. So that’s fun if you and your partner are apart but both have a Lovense toy. I particularly like that you can sync it with another Nora. The sex toy industry is painfully hetero, and sapphic/WLW relationships are often totally ignored. This feels like at least a small nod to remembering that we exist and we’re horny, too.

Verdict

Overall, the Lovense Nora is an excellent toy. Despite a few issues, I am happy to recommend it to anyone who enjoys dual stimulation toys, especially if you’re seeking a toy to use with a partner when you’re apart.

[Toy Review] Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis

I arrived home to find my shipment of products from Mr Hankey’s Toys waiting for me (discreetly packaged) on my doorstep. My first thought when I picked up the box was “bloody hell, these things are heavy!” When I opened the box, I understood why, as I was greeted by three gigantic hunks of silicone. This is the first of the three.

I requested the Mr Hankey’s Perfect Penis in the medium, which is the second smallest available size for this toy, because I am not a size queen by any stretch of the imagination. I’d read the dimensions, but apparently hadn’t fully grasped the meaning of them. So imagine my expression when I realised that:

This thing is the size of my fucking forearm.
I cannot get my entire hand around its shaft.
This is only the second of four sizes.

Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis: Details

The Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis in medium measures just under 11″ in total length and around 8″ in insertable length, with a circumference of 7″ (that’s a diameter of 2.2″.) There are various customisation options available for this toy. You can choose your size and level of firmness, whether or not to add a vac-u-lock hole, as well as a colour and colour effect.

As its name implies, the idea of this toy is that it is as close to a “perfect penis” as one can get. Mr Hankey’s Toys used AI to analyse an array of studies on preferred penis sizes and dimensions and create a range of dildos offering “the perfect balance of length and width.” The result is a realistic toy that includes a pronounced head, detailing such as a foreskin and frenulum, a textured shaft with veins, and realistic balls.

I can’t say I’ve ever had particularly strong opinions about penises, or indeed about what makes one perfect. I tend to be far more interested in the humans they’re attached to, and the actual shape and size of them is of far less interest to me. And, of course, what makes a body part perfect is inherently a subjective and personal question. Still, it was interesting to see this toy, the result of extensive analysis of folks’ penis preferences.

The Perfect Penis is made from body-safe matte silicone. I ordered mine in metallic green, just because I like green and I like unusual colours for my sex toys sometimes.

What I Like About the Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis

The Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis is, objectively and by all measures, an excellent dildo.

I chose the 75% soft, which is the second softest of four available options. According to the company, this mimics a bio penis that is at around 75-80% erect. This was definitely the right choice. I enjoy firm toys sometimes, but for this kind of size, a soft and squishy texture was definitely called for. It’s great that you can customise the toy’s firmness to your preferences. For me, being able to go for a softer and more flexible option made this toy far more useable and enjoyable.

I also particularly like the pronounced head and the additional stimulation it offers as you insert the toy.

The Mr Hankey’s Perfect Penis dildo’s matte silicone gives it a fairly lifelike skin texture, and the overall realistic detailing on the toy is excellent. Of course, you can choose one of the flesh tones available if you want to make your toy even more realistic. I prefer bright colours that don’t resemble actual dicks, but your mileage may vary.

Using this toy is a challenge for me, though it certainly won’t be for everyone. I generally prefer girth over length for insertables, because anything hitting my cervix is painful, so it works best when I use just the first three inches or so of the toy’s shaft. Even then, plenty of warmup and tonnes of lube is essential.

Because it’s so bottom-heavy, this toy actually stays put in an upright position very well by itself. So if putting it down on a firm surface and using it hands-free is your thing, you can do that.

Also thanks to this base, the Perfect Penis is anal-safe. I, however, am not that brave so I did not attempt this.

If you decide to try giant dildos like this one, remember to take things slowly and use even more lube than you think you really need. I’m going to write a piece on safely and comfortably using very large toys soon, so look out for that. In the meantime, taking your time and listening to your body are the most important things you can do.

Anything I Didn’t Like About This Mr Hankey’s Toy?

My only real difficulty with the Perfect Penis was its weight. Because it’s a giant piece of solid silicone, it’s got some serious weight to it. This is something you’ll want to be aware of if holding and manipulating heavy toys is difficult for you.

The only other downside is that I can’t use it for strap-on sex. The balls and base are far too big to make it harness-compatible. I suspect their might be a market for a body-safe, strap-on-friendly toy of these dimensions, though. Other reviewers have noted that the Perfect Penis in size small is great for strap-on play.

It’s also worth noting that the Mr Hankey’s Perfect Penis toy’s silicone is very matte and quite grabby. This isn’t really a complaint as such, but it makes plenty of lube even more essential.

This is admittedly a small gripe, but I didn’t love that the toys came shrink-wrapped in single-use plastic. I understand this might be for hygiene reasons, but silicone is so easy to sterilise and I always recommend cleaning a toy thoroughly before you use it for the first time anyway. Reusable storage bags, or ditching the individual packaging entirely, would be more eco-friendly.

Verdict

Readers often ask me for recommendations for very large dildos, and I sometimes struggle to know what to suggest. Many companies offering huge toys make them out of unsafe and porous materials to save money. So I am pleased to have somewhere to point size lovers looking for quality and body-safe products.

As for me? The Mr Hankey’s Toys Perfect Penis is definitely going to be a “once in a while”, not a “reliable staple”. But those can be fun too!

[Toy Review] Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen

I finally got my hands on the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen, and I’m so excited to review it for you all.

Those of you who have been floating about in the sex geekery space for some time may remember the Hot Octopuss Queen Bee which hit the market in 2017. Hot Octopuss rose to fame for their Pulse, an innovative penis toy which draws on medical technology that uses oscillation to enable ejaculation in people with severe spinal cord injuries. Pretty cool no? The Pulse can be used on either a hard or flaccid dick and was a major breakthrough in accessible toy design that centres disabled people.

Following that success, Hot Octopuss naturally wanted to offer something for vulvas, too. That’s where the Queen Bee came in. Unfortunately, the Queen Bee – while great in theory – fell short in a number of key areas. It was loud as fuck, kinda ugly, and stopped working if you applied any significant pressure. I didn’t hate it as much as some bloggers did, but I was highly underwhelmed.

For all these reasons, when I learned that Hot Octopuss had released a brand new and improved toy for vulvas, I couldn’t wait to try it out.

What is the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen?

The Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen is described as “the world’s first wand with PulsePlate Technology™.” It’s not really a wand in the traditional sense, and its shape is similar to that of many clitoral suction toys. It is a clitoral stimulator that uses high-amplitude oscillations rather than vibrations to deliver deep and rumbly sensations.

The Pulse Queen is made of body-safe silicone (with a plastic control panel on the back) in an attractive shade of turquoise – one of my favourite colours! It is rechargeable, waterproof, and comes with a storage bag.

Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen Review: What I Liked

Buckle in, because I have a LOT to say about the things I love about this toy.

The deep, rumbly stimulation makes me cum fast and reliably and hard. It’s like all the best things about a super rumbly vibrator, only… better. Mains-powered wands are the only other type of toy I’ve ever tried that provide stimulation like this. The orgasms I have with this thing feel inevitable, like it’s going to pull them from me even with minimal effort on my part. Without putting too fine a point on it, heartbreak-induced depression hasn’t exactly been making me feel very sexy lately. But with this toy I can push through that and have an orgasm even when my head isn’t entirely in the game. A vibrator might not directly help me to get over a broken heart, but a good orgasm makes me want to curl up and die slightly less for a few minutes. So that’s something.
The shape of the oscillating head. It tapers to a gentle point, offering targeted clitoral stimulation. Prefer a broader sensation? Just tilt it slightly to the side and use the edge rather than the tip.
The toy is light and the curved handle makes it comfortable and ergonomic to hold. I can use this for much longer than I can use a wand before I start getting hand or wrist cramps. Senior sex expert Joan Price, one of my absolute heroes and an icon in the sex ed and sex positivity world, specifically calls out this toy as “good for arthritic wrists.”
The Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen’s dual speed controls mean you can scroll up and down through speeds as you like. A third button allows you to switch between oscillation settings. There are six patterns as well as constant oscillation. I could live without the patterns but, thanks to the easy and intuitive controls, I don’t hate that they’re there. Each setting has an impressive 9 intensity levels to choose from.
The buttons are well placed, easy to press, and satisfyingly clicky. They’re also large enough and have distinctive enough shapes that it’s easy to feel for them without looking and press the right one. No risk of hitting the wrong one at the wrong moment and accidentally ruining your orgasm.
It is fully waterproof. This means it’s easy to clean as well as usable in the bath or shower. (Not really my thing, but it might be yours!)
Though it’s designed with clits in mind, I am reliably informed it also feels great on penises.
It’s really pretty! Seriously, did I mention how pretty it is?

Anything I Didn’t Like?

The Pulse Queen is significantly quieter than the Queen Bee, but it’s still pretty loud. Something to be aware of if you have family or roommates at home. It’s probably no louder than a typical wand but for some reason it feels more grating to me. It might be the frequency, or it might just be the dissonance of the toy’s small size with its noise output. Either way, I can live with it but I don’t love it.

The battery life isn’t great, offering around 40 minutes of runtime on a full charge. It’s not a huge problem considering that this thing typically gets me off in under five minutes. But it does mean you’ll need to remember to charge the toy regularly if you’re using it a lot (which, erm, I am!) It may also be a problem for those who take longer to reach orgasm.

It’s also worth noting that, like the Queen Bee, the Pulse Queen also stops oscillating if I press it too hard against my vulva. This is probably just a feature of this type of technology and basically unavoidable. It’s worth noting if you prefer a lot of pressure, though.

I also have to have a small gripe about the gendered language here. Does it really have to be called a “Queen”?

Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen Review: Verdict

The Pulse Queen is, despite some small issues, one of the best new sex toys I have tried in a very long time. It’s an incredible upgrade on the Queen Bee in every way. Honestly I’m hesitant to even call it an upgrade. Naming conventions and passingly similar concept aside, it’s pretty much an entirely new toy. And it’s so, so, so fucking good.

This is how you do an oscillating toy for vulvas.

There are a lot of so-called hands-free vibrators on the market, from wearables to knicker vibrators and more. However, far fewer of them are actually hands-free in any meaningful sense. Most of them require at least some manual input to keep them in place. Since the main selling point of these toys is that they enable you to use your hands to do other things while using them, it’s always disappointing when they don’t work as advertised. As such, I am continuously on the hunt for hands-free toys that really are hands-free. UPKO kindly sent me their remote control wand vibrator and thigh harness combo to review.

UPKO Remote Control Wand Vibrator and Vibrator Harness

The UPKO Remote Control Wand Vibrator measures 12″ in length. Both the handle and the head are coated in body-safe silicone. It weighs in at a fairly heavy 380g.

The wand is IPX6 waterproof which means it should not be submerged. It is USB rechargeable and you’ll get around 90 minutes runtime from a 2 hour charge. Included is a remote control which works from a range of up to 10 metres.

The other part of the kit Upko sent me to review is a thigh vibrator harness. This is made of nylon and consists of two thick black bands decorated with gold coloured metal hardware and an embroidered UPKO insignia. The harness fastens with velcro straps and is adjustable up to around 22″ in the upper band and 18″ in the lower. Each band features a smaller strap that sits on the inside of the leg and is designed to hold the wand in place against the genitals.

Bafflingly, the marketing copy for this set includes the phrase “wearing it in public triggers a strong sense of embarrassment.” Which isn’t technically untrue, I’m sure, but… wearing this in public would also trigger a strong sense of getting arrested for public indecency. It’s not a little insertable or knicker vibe, it’s a giant fuckoff wand. There is no universe in which you’re using this in public.

With that said, let’s look at the pros and cons of this set.

UPKO Wand Vibrator & Harness Kit Review: What I Liked

It arrived beautifully packaged in a smart and sturdy branded box
There are six settings—two constant vibration speeds and four patterns—and dual controls so you can scroll through them in either direction.
The motor has a decent amount of power behind it (not the rumbliness I’d prefer, though—see below.)
The flexible neck makes it easy to turn and position the head whatever way works best for your body.
The vibrator harness holds the wand in place effectively. After a little experimenting with positions and the tightness of the straps, I was able to enjoy this toy truly hands-free.
The harness is also pretty comfortable to wear.
The texturing on the wand’s head adds to the clitoral stimulation it provides.
The hands-free nature of this set presents some intriguing—and kinky—possibilities. Why not combine it with other bondage fun such as cuffs or shibari, or use it for orgasm control or forced orgasm play?
The vibrator is fairly quiet even on its top setting, clocking in at under 55db.
The buttons are easy to press and satisfyingly clicky.

Anything I Didn’t Like?

I like the toys I review to be pretty, and this Upko wand vibrator’s aesthetic is weird and dull. Why is it so grey? I suspect they were going for an elegant and classy vibe but it just doesn’t work for me.
The vibrations might be powerful, but they’re also pretty buzzy. I could get an orgasm out of this thing but it required a couple of pauses mid-session because it was starting to numb me out.
The harness is not as size-inclusive as it could be. The upper band is adjustable up to around 22″ in circumference but it would be trivial to add longer straps to make it suitable for bigger bodies.
The + and – buttons blend in with the surrounding silicone. Making them a different colour, more pronounced, or light-up would make them easier to use particularly in low light.

Upko Wand Vibrator & Harness Review: Verdict

This is not a bad kit for the price. You get a body-safe wand vibrator with a few different settings and a harness for a relatively affordable $129 (at the time of writing, on sale and down to $99.)

Ultimately, the wand itself is only mediocre and I’m unlikely to reach for it again. The harness, though, I do like. I’ll probably be trying it with other wand vibrators in my collection.

Wearable vibrators are eternally popular, and every time I think I’ve seen every possible iteration on this theme something new comes along. With the promise of a toy you can use hands-free, a toy that can provide clitoral stimulation (which most people with vulvas need to orgasm) during penetrative sex, or a toy you can use in places where it would normally not be okay to use a sex toy, the allure of these types of products is obvious. It’s time to review the We-Vibe Sync O.

We-Vibe Sync O: Details

The We-Vibe Sync O is a remote-controlled and app-controlled vibrator. It is designed primarily to be worn during penetrative sex to provide extra clitoral stimulation. This U-shaped toy has a bendable hinge, allowing you to position it in the way that works for your body.

There’s a loop-shaped internal arm designed to hold it in place securely inside your body, and an external portion that rests against the vulva and clit. Design-wise, the We-Vibe Sync O is clearly a successor to other popular We-Vibe products such as the Sync and Chorus/Chorus Pro.

The insertable portion measures 3″ in length, and the clitoral arm measures about 4″.

The Sync O is made of body-safe silicone and available in two colours: green or purple. It is fully waterproof and submersible for use in the bath or shower, and USB rechargeable. You’ll get up to 150 minutes runtime from a full charge depending on which settings you’re using. You also get a little storage bag, but for some reason this isn’t really big enough to fit the toy, the remote, and the charging cable so it’s a bit pointless.

Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of the We-Vibe Sync O.

We-Vibe Sync O Review: What I Liked

The Sync O’s vibrations are reasonably strong and rumbly
The hinged design makes it easy to position the vibrator comfortably
The remote control’s responsiveness is excellent and somewhat makes up for the annoying one-button interface (see below)
The product page says that the We-Vibe Sync O’s internal arm is designed to keep the toy securely in place. This is likely because the flexible silicone loop pushes outwards against the vaginal walls when you’re wearing it. I did find that it was less likely to fall out than other wearable toys I’ve tried (though the trade-off was some considerable discomfort – see below.)
The texturing on the underside of the clitoral arm adds an extra bit of friction and additional stimulation
The silicone is soft, smooth, and easy to clean
The Sync O is pretty quiet in use

What I Didn’t Like

Companies always sell these toys as “hands free” but in my experience they rarely actually are. As with the Chorus, I found I needed to use my hand to hold the We-Vibe Sync O in place during use. Otherwise, it just slipped out of position and away from my clit, leading to an experience far more frustrating than pleasurable.
The single button interface on the toy itself limits your options if you don’t want to use the remote or the app.
I found the insertable loop really uncomfortable, bordering on painful, to wear. The sensation of having my vaginal walls pushed outwards was a bit like having a speculum inserted at the gyno (in other words, the least sexy thing imaginable.) Getting a penis or dildo inside me alongside it? No chance. This is a pretty major issue considering it’s the main selling point of the toy and renders it virtually unusable for me.

The We-Vibe App

The We-Vibe app is free to download on Android or iOS. Connecting your toy via Bluetooth is easy, with clear instructions, and takes less than 30 seconds. From there, you can select “Play” and make use of all the app’s functionalities including:

Single Vibe, which allows you to adjust the toy’s speed on a constant vibration setting
Multi vibe, which allows you to use up to four different settings and switch between them quickly
Touch mode, which was annoyingly useless (it’s supposed to change the vibrations based on your finger movements on the screen, but actually did the same lacklustre juddering vibration no matter where and how I pressed)
Beat, which syncs your toy to music.

Ambient, in which the toy responds and vibes along to ambient noise around you. For the record, I do not recommend using toys in public. Yes, people can probably tell, and yes, you’re probably making them uncomfortable.

The app’s responsiveness is generally good, and I found connectivity to be reliable. In practice I don’t really use apps to control toys that much – somehow, pulling out my phone mid-sex feels like it ruins the moment! The app offers some intriguing possibilities, but I don’t see myself actually using it very often.

I did not have the opportunity to test the app’s long-distance functionality as I no longer have a long-distance partner to try it with. However, I will say that my experience with the We-Vibe app’s distance features have been… a mix. With the Chorus, it worked beautifully. With the Rave 2, it didn’t work at all. I suspect this is due to app version upgrades rather than specific toys, though, as it’s the same basic tech in all of them.

We-Vibe Sync O Review: Verdict

Though I was impressed by the We-Vibe Sync O’s motor and bendable design, it’s let down hugely by the fact that I can’t actually wear it for any significant period of time as the insertable part just causes me pain. Of course, all bodies are different. You might not have any issue with wearing this toy at all – and the many rave reviews indicate that it works well for a lot of people!

This is really a “know your body” situation. If your vagina is more accommodating than mine and you’re looking for a wearable toy, it could be a great choice for you.

[Toy Review] Bodywand Vario

People with clitorises have wildly different preferences when it comes to how we like to have them stimulated. For some people, only the lightest touch will do, while others prefer a lot of pressure. Intense, rumbly vibrations do it for some, while a light buzz works best for others. Then, of course, there’s the broad vs. pinpoint stimulation question. For those who prefer very pinpoint sensations, toys like the Zumio are ideal. For those who enjoy all-over vulva stimulation, wands are the way to go. But what about if you’re looking for a little of both, or even just aren’t sure what you like yet? That’s where the Bodywand Vario, which I just received to review, comes in.

This is only the second Bodywand toy I’ve ever tried, so I was intrigued to get started and see how it shaped up. Let’s take a closer look.

Bodywand Vario: Details

The Bodywand Vario is a double-ended vibrator. At one end there’s a narrow flexible silicone tip with a ball shaped end for clitoral stimulation, and at the other there’s a curved insertable vibrating shaft.

It is made of 100% body-safe silicone in white with rose gold coloured ABS plastic accents. For some reason, white silicone toys always make me think of medical devices. Which, you know, can be fun if that’s your kink!

The Vario’s insertable length is around 4″ and the diameter is 1.2″ at the widest point, so if you’re looking for a large insertable this isn’t the way to go. End to end, it measures just over 7″ in total.

The Bodywand Vario is USB rechargeable via the included cable. You’ll get 60-90 minutes of use from a full two hour charge depending on which settings you’re using. It is splashproof, so you can use it in the shower or wash it with soap and running water but should not submerge it in water (for example, in the bath.)

Bodywand Vario Review: In Use

The Bodywand Vario offers 7 vibration settings (3 speeds and 4 patterns) in the insertable end and 10 settings (3 speeds and 7 patterns) in the clitoral stimulator.

The Vario’s two-button interface is fine, though the buttons are small and blended into the white silicone body. This makes them pretty hard to see, especially in low light. You can use both ends of the toy simultaneously, though I can’t imagine any reason you’d want to. As ever, I would prefer two-way controls so that you can scroll both ways through settings.

Holding this toy is a little awkward when you’re using the insertable end. You end up with your hand wrapped around the flexible tip, which isn’t the most intuitive or comfortable.

The Vario’s vibrations are pretty good! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this thing’s level of power genuinely impressed me. The vibrations in the insertable end feel more rumbly to me than those in the clitoral end. I can’t work out if it’s actually a different motor or if the vibrations just feel different because they’re distributed across a broader area.

For the sake of a complete review, I also tested out the Bodywand Vario’s insertable end. It’s fine though not really my thing as I don’t like the sensation of internal vibrations. Its shape is good, though, with a nice curve and just enough flex. The firm ridge on the underside will appeal to those who enjoy texturing on their toys.

The Bodywand Vario really comes into its own as a clitoral vibrator, though. I absolutely love the shape and size of the precision tip. It’s not as small or firm as the Zumio (the most obvious point of comparison for a toy like this,) so it doesn’t cross that narrow threshold from “so intense it’s amazing” to “so intense it’s painful.”

Pro tip: the matte silicone is smooth and soft, but given the small size of the tip you’re going to want plenty of lube for this one.

Bodywand Vario Review: Verdict

I had a feeling I was going to like the Bodywand Vario, and it exceeded my expectations with its excellent design and powerful motors.

The Vario retails for £104 from Sex Toys UK. It’s a somewhat pricey product but if you enjoy both clitoral and internal stimulation, you’re really getting two toys in one.

The market for clitoral grinders has exploded in the last couple of years, with numerous sex toy manufacturers bringing out their own versions. These toys are designed primarily for people with vulvas, and provide stimulation through friction against their textured surfaces. Uncover Creations, a small UK-based and female-founded business offering body-safe silicone fantasy sex toys, sent me three of their grinders to try: I received the Tentacle Grinder, Tentacle II, and Synstyl Grinder.

Uncover Creations offers a number of customisation options so you can create exactly the toy you want.

All UC toys are made of body-safe silicone. Choose from three firmness levels, with “Super Soft” as standard and either “Medium” or “Squishy Soft” as alternatives.

Each grinder comes with a set of straps that you can use to attach the toy to a pillow, toy mount, partner’s leg, or any other suitable surface you can think of. The straps measure around 70cm or 2.5ft and are removeable for convenience when you’re not using them. You can pick a colour for your grinder’s included straps or go with the standard black.

If you want to use your grinder with a vibrator, you can add a hole for a bullet vibe. There’s the option to add a basic or premium bullet to your order, or you can use one you already own.

Then you can get creative and choose your colours. There are various options available including single colours, fades, and marble effects, or you can save a little money on your order by letting the company choose and surprise you.

Uncover Creations’ most innovative custom option is the “Silky Smooth” upgrade. This uses a special additive made from Durian tree nuts to give the toy a velvety, gliding surface. It also has a subtle, nutty scent that’s not at all unpleasant. Avoid this if you’re allergic to tree nuts or musk thistle, or if you’re very sensitive to smell.

I received the Tentacle Grinder in “frosted thistle,” a gorgeous shimmery lilac shade.

The Tentacle Grinder was Uncover Creations’ first forays into tentacle grinders and it seems to be standing the test of time. This chunky grinder is a swirly mass of coiled tentacles, each lined with dozens of little suckers. The Tentacle Grinder measures 7″ in length, 4.9″ across, and 1.77″ in depth at the tallest point. It weighs in a chunky 440g, which helps it to stay in place.

I’m hugely impressed with the intricacy and detail of this toy. If you’re into tentacles for their own sake, you’ll love the fluid, almost moving sense you get from this grinder’s aesthetic.

The Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder is texture for days. The curves of the various tendrils, plus all the little suckers, means I get so much stimulation that it’s almost overwhelming in the best possible way. Given all that texturing, though, you’ll really need lots of lube to get the best experience from this one.

Since it’s relatively large and wide, you can get incredible all-over vulva stimulation from the Tentacle Grinder. The stimulation is also continuous and constant. No matter how you move against it, at least one of the tentacles and all its suckers will be in contact with your clit at all times.

The height of this grinder is one of its main and best selling points. Its relatively tall design makes it so easy to get into a comfortable position and grind against it, even while lying down. The mixture of firmness and squish is excellent, too. Though Uncover Creations calls this blend of silicone “super soft”, there’s still plenty to grind against.

I love the Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder. When I want intensity from a grind toy, this is the one I reach for. If you like a lot of texture, this is the toy for you.

The only downside to this toy is that it’s a bit of a nightmare to clean. Bodily fluids and lube can get stuck between the various tentacles and in all the little folds. I recommend boil-sterilising it regularly.

The Tentacle Grinder retails at £77 for a random colour with black straps. The various customisations add to the cost.

Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II

The Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder II has a single, central raised and textured tentacle. This tentacle has two rows of “suckers” along its sides and tapers to a tongue-like point. The base of the toy is also decorated with swirly patterns and aquatic motifs.

The Tentacle Grinder II measures 7.5″ in length and 5.5″ in width. The central tentacle is raised by 1.77″ at the highest point. This one is also quite heavy, weighing 440g in total.

I received the Tentacle Grinder II in a lovely shade of turquoise called “Kingfisher.”

I was sure I was going to love this toy the moment I looked at it. It’s got so many things I like: a raised section, soft and squishy silicone, and plenty of texturing. Here’s what I didn’t expect: it is by far the closest a sex toy has ever come to mimicking cunnilingus for me.

I thought that the highest point in the middle of the tentacle was going to be my favourite part of this toy. However, I soon realised that if I grind against it just right, the tongue-like tip of the tentacle flicks back and forth over my clit like… well, like a tongue. With plenty of lube, it’s a surprisingly good approximation of being eaten out.

The orgasms I have from this Tentacle Grinder are less like the orgasms I have from other grinders and more like the orgasms I have from a partner going down on me.

I always thought that, if a toy ever did actually get close to feeling like receiving oral sex, it would be a suction toy. Many claim to do this, though none have yet succeeded. I did not expect that it would be a grinder shaped like a tentacle.

The other great selling point of the Tentacle Grinder II is its height. With some lower grinders, I’ve found myself struggling to get into the right position or having to use a pillow or mount to bring the toy closer to my body. No such problems here. I can simply place it under me in a lying position and grind against it comfortably.

I do not say this lightly, because I have tried and reviewed literally hundreds of toys: the Tentacle Grinder II is not only one of the best grinders I’ve ever tried, but one of the best toys period.

Uncover Creations Synstyl Grinder

I received the Synstyl Grinder in vibrant “Electric Blue.”

The Synstyl Grinder’s design is inspired by a flower, though to me it really looks like a vulva! It’s perhaps the most intricately textured toy I’ve ever tried. The Synstyl Grinder is undoubtedly beautiful. Even the base is decorated with similar texturing, which isn’t necessary from a sensation perspective but makes the toy even more gorgeous. This one measures 6.7″ in length, 5.1″ in width, and around 1.5″ in height at the tallest point.

When I first looked at my three Uncover Creations grinders, I thought the Synstyl would likely feel the most intense due to all the little flaps, curves and ridges. So I was more than a little surprised when it turned out to be far less intense than the two tentacle grinders.

The Synstyl Grinder’s silicone is extremely soft and, for me, almost too yielding. I kept finding myself wanting more pressure from it. All those little petal-like folds were just a little too flexible. This is one that would probably have benefited from the firmer silicone option.

Don’t get me wrong, the Synstyl Grinder feels good, but it’s just not quite enough for me from a pressure and intensity perspective. I’ve found that I tend to reach for it when I’m looking for a warmup toy, though it doesn’t usually make me orgasm by itself. If you’re looking for a softer and slightly less intense grinder toy, the Synstyl Grinder might be perfect for you.

Using Grinders with a Bullet

I requested my Uncover Creations vibrator with the premium bullet option, which turned out to be the Nu Sensuelle Bullet Point. This plastic bullet is waterproof, rechargeable, and has 10 constant speeds and 10 patterns. For its price-point (it costs £45 to add one of these to your Uncover Creations order), this is a damn good bullet vibrator. It’s powerful and surprisingly rumbly. I do wish it had a remote control, though. It’s pretty difficult to change the settings manually without completely dismounting when you’re riding a toy!

Of course, you can also use any bullet vibrator you already own with your grinders, if you prefer. Whatever you use, though, lube it up before you insert it into your grinder. Trust me, you don’t want to be trying to get it out afterwards without lube.

I wasn’t sure how well the thick silicone of these grinders would transmit the bullet’s vibrations. But it actually does so incredibly well. I can still get plenty of sensation from the bullet even through the thickest part of the grinders.

The two tentacle grinders really don’t need the bullet. They’re more than good enough without it. Even so, sometimes it’s nice to mix things up. If you want a little extra stimulation or something a bit different, the bullet is a nice addition.

The Synstyl Grinder, on the other hand, is significantly improved by vibrations. I tend to prefer more intensity, and the Synstyl Grinder plus vibrator gives me what the grinder on its own lacks. On its higher settings, the vibrator makes the toy’s petals sort of quiver and flicker, which feels amazing.

Who doesn’t love a sex toy that’s as cute as it is functional? For many of us, the aesthetic of our toys matters and adds to our overall experience. This is particularly true when you’re giving a toy to a lover as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any other occasion. Lovehoney has recently released two new heart toys for the Season of Love: the Heartbeat Clitoral Suction Stimulator and the Heart Throb Heart Vibrator. I received both to test and review.

Lovehoney Heartbeat Clitoral Suction Stimulator: Details

The Lovehoney Heartbeat is a petite, heart-shaped clitoral suction stimulator with the nozzle located in the point of the heart. The nozzle surrounds your clit and stimulates it not with vibrations, but with rapid air pulses that create a “sucking” sensation. (Companies keep insisting on claiming that these toys feel like receiving cunnilingus. They do not.)

Measuring just 3″ in height, the Lovehoney Heartbeat Clitoral Suction Stimulator is light and small enough to fit into the palm of your hand. It is made of soft and body-safe crimson silicone.

The Heartbeat is rechargeable via the included USB cable, with a 60 minute charge giving you around the same in running time. It also has a travel lock function and is IPX7 waterproof (fully submersible for up to 30 minutes.)

Lovehoney Heartbeat: Pros & Cons

Though the Lovehoney Heartbeat clitoral suction stimulator had some promise, it also has some significant issues.

Pros

The Heartbeat Clitoral Suction Stimulator’s power is decent, particularly on the higher levels. On the top setting, it can get me off in less then ten minutes.
It has ten levels of power, and the levels are well-spaced and distinctive. There are also no patterns, which I appreciate.
It is reasonably quiet.
The buttons are easy to press and the user interface is simple.
The aesthetic is super cute and romantic.

Cons

For a toy with as many as 10 settings, you really need two-way speed controls.
I understand the appeal of a heart-shaped sex toy, but the shape also creates problems. This is one of the least ergonomic clitoral suction toys I’ve ever tried and it is, frankly, a nightmare to hold for any length of time. Every time I’ve used it, I’ve ended up with serious hand cramp.
The nozzle is too small. I don’t have a particularly large clitoral glans, but this toy is still too small to surround it comfortably. If you have a larger or more prominent clit, forget it. Someone in the Lovehoney on-site reviews does note that they have a smaller-than-average clit and that this toy works really well for them as a result, so it might just be a matter of what types of anatomy it is best suited to.

Cute, but ultimately more gimmick than function. This toy has too many flaws for me to fully recommend it, most notably the awkward shape and too-small nozzle.

The Lovehoney Heart Throb is a heart-shaped vibrator measuring a tiny 3″ in length. It has indented curve detailing on both sides, making it look like the heart insignia from Lovehoney’s branding.

Like the Heartbeat, the Lovehoney Heart Throb is rechargeable via the included cable and 1 hour of charging will get you around an hour of runtime. Made of body-safe red silicone, is also waterproof and has a travel lock.

Let’s look at what I liked and didn’t like about this toy.

Pros

Cute!
The body of the toy is firm with only the slightest bit of “squish,” making it easy to get plenty of pressure.
The silicone is lovely and soft.
It’s small enough to hold in your palm and slide between bodies during partnered sex, if you want to.
The single button is sensibly located (in the centre at the top) and easy to press.
Like the Heartbeat, the Lovehoney Heart Throb vibrator is super light.
The shape means that you can get broader stimulation by holding it flat against your body, more pinpoint stimulation by using the tip, or something in between by using the side. Lots of options!

Cons

There are 10 settings including three constant vibration speeds and 7 patterns, but only one button.
The thick silicone dampens the vibrations a lot, meaning that its overall intensity is pretty weak.
The vibrations are extremely buzzy.

Lovehoney Heart Throb Vibrator: Verdict

It’s super adorable, but as a vibrator the Lovehoney Heart Throb is only mediocre.

[Toy Review] Womanizer Next

Can you believe it’s 10 years since Womanizer released their first Pleasure Air clitoral stimulator into the world? That product brought a whole new category of sex toys into popular consciousness and launched a thousand copycats. To celebrate 10 years, the company has released their latest offering: the Womanizer Next, which I just received to review. Let’s have a look how the Womanizer Next stacks up and how it compares vs the Premium 2.

Womanizer Next Clitoral Suction Stimulator Review: What’s New?

The Womanizer Next is the latest in Womanizer’s long line of clitoral suction stimulators based on their patented “Pleasure Air” technology. If you’re not familiar with this type of toy, they feature a nozzle that goes over your clit and then stimulates it with rapid air pulses.

The Womanizer Next comes in sleek and sexy packaging that adds to the overall luxury vibe of the product. In the box you’ll find the toy, the charging cable, a storage bag, a spare nozzle, and an instruction leaflet.

This toy is rechargeable with a full charge taking around 2 hours and giving you about the same in battery life. It’s also IPX7 waterproof (submersible in up to 1 metre of water).

At first glance, the Womanizer Next and Womanizer Premium 2 bear a strong resemblance and retail for a similar price. But what’s special about the Next and how is it similar and different from the Premium 2?

Womanizer Next vs Premium 2: Similarities

The two toys are the same basic shape, design, and interface, though the Next is slightly larger than the Premium 2.
Both feature a soft, silicone-coated body and body-safe silicone interchangeable nozzles.
Both offer 14 intensity settings.
Both come with Smart Silence technology (which means the toy will only operate when it’s in close contact with the body) and an Autopilot mode which guides you through a pre-set sequence of stimulation levels.

Womanizer Next vs Premium 2: Differences

This is where the Womanizer Next vs Premium 2 comparison get interesting! The Womanizer Next offers an array of new features alongside those old favourites from the Premium.

The latest technology enhancement, 3D Pleasure Air, allows you to control not only the speed/intensity of the suction but also the “depth.” With 14 intensity settings and 3 depth settings – controlled by a separate button – it’s highly customisable.
The “Afterglow” function allows you to immediately switch to the lowest setting after orgasm.
The new, redesigned motor provides slower pulses than previous Womanizer toys and a “linear, up-and-down movement”. Supposedly this provides a more realistic sensation that more closely mimics oral sex (which… we’ll pick apart later.)

Overall, if you’re choosing between the two products, I’d advise you to go for the Next. You’re only paying £10/$20 more, and you get several great new features for that small price difference.

The Next also comes in two new colourways, Sage and Dark Purple, as well as black.

Womanizer Next Review: Pros

I had high expectations for the Womanizer Next. I’ve tried many Womanizer products over the years and, despite some occasional missteps, there have been far more hits than misses.

So what were the best things about this one?

That depth function! It’s perfect for ramping things up just at the moment when you need a tiny bit more. Each of the three depth settings feels noticeably different on all the toy’s speeds.
The Afterglow feature is genuinely brilliant. Many people, including me, find that their clit gets over-sensitive immediately after orgasm. Being able to switch to the lowest setting and continue enjoying a level of stimulation that’s comfortable is a game-changer.
The two nozzles provided are slightly different sizes, making the toy suitable for more bodies. The slightly larger one works best for me.
I love the slower air pulses, which give a gentler level of stimulation to start with. Great for warm-up or just for high sensitivity days.
I can easily use it hands-free just by kinda holding it between my thighs. This is unusual, but suction toys often work best for me with my legs closed rather than spread. I suspect it’s because so much of the focus is on the head of the clit and this position kinda brings everything closer together.
The Smart Silence feature isn’t particularly useful to me – I share a house with a partner who knows all about my masturbation habits! – but may be highly useful to those who need to be more discreet.
The button placement is intuitive and the interface is simple to use despite the toy’s many features.
It works beautifully in water, creating a kind of “swirling” feeling that is absolutely divine.
Most importantly, this thing got me off hard and fast. I’ll say this for Womanizer: they’re reliable when it comes to inducing leg-shaking, sheet-soaking, neighbour-scaring orgasms.

Womanizer Next: Downsides

With all of those great things said and this review shaping up positively, was there anything I didn’t like about the Womanizer Next?

I still can’t say I see the point of the Autopilot feature. I guess it’s a little more like receiving stimulation from a partner because the toy changes intensity without input from you? However, unlike a partner, the toy cannot respond to your reactions so the changes are essentially random. And if it shifts down at the wrong moment, that seems like a recipe for ruined orgasms and frustration. (Of course, that might be your kink. In which case have fun.)
The buttons are not as clicky or easy to press as on previous Womanizer models.
I’m annoyed by the “designed for multiple orgasms” marketing. Not everyone can have multiples! Not everyone WANTS to have multiples! Stop being prescriptive. This is less egregious than “orgasm guaranteed” but it’s still… not great.
It is not, despite the packaging and product listing’s claims, “noiseless.” Yes, it’s very quiet on the lower settings. However, on the higher settings (and particularly once the top depth settings get involved) I would say it’s average-to-loud.

No, It Still Doesn’t Feel Like Cunnilingus

I’m calling it: it is not possible, with the technology we currently have available, to design a sex toy that accurately and realistically replicates the feeling of receiving cunnilingus. I feel like I say this in every clitoral suction toy review, and the Womanizer Next isn’t going to change that.

Yes, using a clit sucker is much closer to cunnilingus than other forms of stimulation (e.g. masturbation with fingers or vibrators.) It kinda sorta resembles the “sucking” motion that a partner might make on your clit. It’s the closest way for me to scratch that particular itch if I’m craving cunnilingus and do not have a willing partner available. However, it cannot replicate the warmth, wetness, or overall feel of a mouth.

I really wish companies would stop marketing toys in this way, because it just feeds unrealistic expectations. This is a great product, but it is not in any meaningful way an “oral sex simulator.” I am sure such a thing will exist one day, but it doesn’t yet.

Womanizer Next Review: Verdict

The Womanizer Next is, like many of its predecessors, seriously pricey. However, it does offer a lot of bang for your buck (so to speak) in terms of features, functionality, and effectiveness. It’s a great next generation of an already excellent product and a worthy celebration of Womanizer’s 10th anniversary!

[Toy Review] ROMP Lipstick Clitoral Suction Stimulator

ROMP is a toy brand owned by WOW Tech, the parent company behind brands such as Womanizer, We-Vibe, Pjur, and Arcwave. ROMP toys have a fun, playful aesthetic and come in a range of bright, popping colours. I received the ROMP Lipstick, a petite suction stimulator for the clitoris, to review.

ROMP Lipstick: Suction Clitoris Stimulator Review

The ROMP Lipstick Clitoral Suction Stimulator measures 4″ in total length and looks like, well, a tube of lipstick (or other makeup product such as mascara.) It wouldn’t look at all out of place in my makeup bag.

The ROMP Lipstick is a clitoral suction stimulator that – like the thousands of other toys in this category now on the market – uses a nozzle opening and rapid pulses of air to provide “touchless” stimulation to the clit. The toy’s body is made of hard plastic, and its nozzle is made of body-safe silicone.

This toy is rechargeable. A full charge (2 hours) gives you around 60 minutes of use on the top setting. It’s also IPX7 waterproof, i.e. submersible in water up to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes.

Things I Like About the ROMP Lipstick Suction Clitoris Stimulator

Before I start complaining about all the issues with the ROMP Lipstick Clitoral Suction Stimulator, let’s talk about the things I did like!

The look. In general, I’m “meh” about the concept of sex toys that are deliberately designed not to look like sex toys. But the aesthetic of this one is cute and fun enough that it gets away with it.
It’s small, light, and comfortable to hold.
The button placement is sensible (on the base of the toy) and the button itself is clicky and easy to press.
It has 7 evenly-graded power settings, which is reasonable for a toy at this price point.
It’s pretty quiet, especially when the nozzle is against the body.

That’s about it, I’m afraid.

Anything I Don’t Like?

Ugh. Where do I begin? I really wanted to love this product, because I was drawn to its bright colours and cute design. Unfortunately, I have far more negative than positive to say about the ROMP Lipstick suction clitoris stimulator. Namely…

The nozzle is too small! I don’t have a particularly large clit, but I couldn’t even get this thing to enclose it all. The nozzle opening is a tiny 1cm in diameter. If your clit is anything but quite small, I think you’ll struggle with this one.
The suction mechanism is – how do I put this nicely? – absolute crap. I didn’t get any of the lovely fluttering sensations that I get from good clit suction toys. Instead, it just felt like a particularly weak and buzzy vibrator.
The button isn’t always responsive. About 10-20% of the time, I have to press it twice to get the setting to change.
For a toy at this price-point, a one-button interface (meaning you have to scroll through all the settings to go backwards) really isn’t good enough.
It’s far too expensive. £49.99/$59.99 is a reasonable price for a mid-range toy, but feels like a rip-off for something as disappointing as this.

Worst of all is that I knew within two minutes that this thing was never going to get me off. Even with warm-up and some hot content to read, there was just absolutely no way. To be honest, even when I was turned on and my clitoris was sensitive and ready to go, the ROMP Lipstick suction stimulator didn’t even feel particularly good. If “did not give me an orgasm” is a damning statement to make about a sex toy, “did not even feel good” is pretty unforgiveable.

A final and possibly petty gripe: the packaging tells me I can “cancel my next booty call”. This is an immediate ugh from me because I do not think we should be comparing toys to human partners or framing them as replacements, even in jest. It’s also just ridiculously inaccurate considering the speed with which I threw this thing across the room and reached for something effective to finish the job.

Verdict

The ROMP Lipstick Clitoral Suction Stimulator is, all things considered, tremendously disappointing. Its nozzle is too small, its suction functionality is lacklustre, and there is simply no universe in which it will ever make me cum.

Sadly, I’m chalking this one up as overpriced and underwhelming. Especially because you can get far better clitoral suction toys for the same price (or even less!) Skip it.
